    Gold or red?

An older brother of a friend of mine bought it the week it first came out (September 1969 or so, right?) and I was there when he cracked the shrink wrap. The Elektra labels were RED. I have been told by Doors Collectors that the first release had GOLD labels. Not on the West Coast, that's for sure. Do any of you have a Gold label original (not Canadian)?

I don't trust anyone on anything anymore.. What do YOU know? Don't be quoting from a book...

    Thanks.

    Red

The power of suggestion; red is what I recall and now I need to check!

I don't know anything about this except I've never heard of a Gold label U.S. pressing of this album. Maybe Canadian? They'd sometimes use "older" labels after the U.S. changed styles. Columbia 360, etc.

RED. Of course I'm color-blind, but I'm supposed to be able to see most red--and I would remember GOLD I think.

Well I am not sure if this helps, but I think the answer MIGHT be gold:

Wish I had a matrix number to share with you, but maybe you can contact the authors of the website. Good luck, Steve!

It might be a regional difference. Certainly the west coast pressings were red labels.

I remember buying the album when it was first released. I will try to find my copy, but I am pretty sure it is on a red label.

My dad still has his. I called him and aksed him when he bought it. "The summer after I graduated high school" he said. That was 1969. It has a red label :)

Split it! Half gold, half red, satisfy everyone (until the arguments start over which side should come first)

The one my dad bought new had a red label, for what it's worth. Californy. Yeah he dug the Doors. So do I.

My copy is a red label - practically mint as the day it was unwrapped. The guy I got it from received lots of promos, he had hundreds of 'em to sell 6-7 years ago. I got a couple from his collection. Not exactly first hand knowledge I know, but....

My big "E" RED label was purchased from the original buyer who got it in Southern California within the first month of release. The matrix info is:
    Side 1: T 1 EKS-75005-A-2 CTH
    Side 2: T 1 EKS-75005-B-1 CTH

A dumb way to look at it, perhaps, but what color is the 1999 HDCD CD? I don't have it handy, but it isn't it gold? Elektra (it seems) used the original LP label design on each 1999 HDCD disc.

AF should have their OWN design of label like DCC , you can tell by looking that it's a DCC, and therefore quality. Classics drive me mad because it's hard to tell it's their pressing at all.

SO Steve, increase your marketing profile, and USPs by having your own label and then we can all stop worrying!

Were these 2 labels only on Soft Parade? I always thought the Butterfly label came before the red (and after the gold).

Red. Purchased when Touch Me was still on the top 40 charts.
