I was pissed when Saturday's episode cut off "to be continued..." so I suppose that means I was pretty into it.

.......but aren't you that tinsey bit curious of where the conversation could go......? Gortism is a noble calling....but even so, angel on one shoulder, imp on the other....

I try to resist curiosity about potential thread derailing conversation directions. That initial curious impulse sets one upon a road that culminates in living under a bridge while insisting that passers by solve a riddle before crossing.

I really used to like Dr. Who, dating back to the 1970s when I read some of the books.
Unfortunately, the Ponds destroyed the series in my opinion.

If I closed my eyes, I thought it was Bilbo and Smaug for a minute....

Ok, who didn't love the Beethoven intro and guitar'd theme? Best thing of the series so far.

I wasn't very impressed. There was more soul stealing voodoo with magic writing that makes you vulnerable to ghost attacks - bleh! In addition, you had a very confusing plot which tried to tackle the information paradox via the Beethoven example (ie, where did the original information come from if a time traveler gives a famous historical figure the details of something they invented prior to them inventing it?). This paradox could have been explored a lot more clearly.

    I'm liking Series 9 so far. I think it's very 70s-esque.

Seeing The Doctor had a vinyl collection was the best bit of the episode.

    It was awesome.

I'm loving this season, and Capaldi now owns!

My thoughts exactly on both accounts.

Yeah, I immediately had to learn how to play it.

Capaldi is in the running for my favorite Doctor. So much awesomeness.

Plus it was copped from Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy.

Sylvester McCoy was seen listening to a Victrola at the beginning of the TV movie.

I loved the Ponds. Amy is still my favorite companion of the rebooted series.

Same here. Although I have a soft place in my heart for Donna Noble.

Still, I was crushed when Billie Piper canceled her appearance at NYCC this weekend.

    Crushed, I tell you.

I thought ep5 was okay. The Odin thing was a bit silly including the not-Cybermen subplot, but if you discount that, the episode presents some interesting themes and ideas which look to be explored in the next episode.

Poor Maisie Williams must have wondered onto the wrong medieval set! :D

I like this season (after a slow start) far better than the last one...a nice mix of humor/action and more serious stuff.

Good episode though I don't like the idea of medieval Vikings being able use modern technology and train for warfare under two strangers.

Capaldi is now my favorite doctor.

I hate "I'm the doctor, I can speak baby/horse/dinosaur." I really, really hate it. I do like the ramifications of the immortality pill, and will be interested to see how that plays out.

When they first appeared, my daughter thought they'd be Sontarans, based on his rambling on about the glory of warfare.

I thought the viking villagers must have been related to Klingons with all that honorable death talk. :D

Part two was okay, but again, the lion king subplot was cringeworthy and stupid and seemed to be shoehorned in just to add some kind of conflict. Clearly, the episode was about exploring the effects of immortality and that part I liked quite a bit. They could have taken that aspect into darker places to provide the peril in the plot rather then a token random alien with a hokey rift in reality schtick, coz people die - ugh.

The humor was fine, if not period appropriate and it looks like Maisie might be having a recurring role. Maybe the next companion? I think she'd make a great companion after Clara.

Yep, I came here to say pretty much the same thing, The fire breathing lion and the CGI rift were definite distractions from an otherwise excellent episode.
