Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

Unless someone is a student of audio engineering, this generation has no concept of mono since they were born way after the 60.

I'm sure the manager would have "loved" to have heard how that salesman handles prospective customers.

This didn't happen to me, but a friend of mine overheard this conversation:

    Customer: -Do you have "Carmen"?
    Clerk: -Carmen who?

Okay so I didn't overhear this since I was the one having the conversation, but...

ME: Do you have any Ravi Shankar or can you point me to the World music section?

17 year old clerk who sounded like Butt-Head: Isn't he like... dead?

A). He wasn't dead at the time

    and

B). What does him being alive or dead have to do with if they had him in stock?

I overheard something similar between two twenty-something girls in my local Goodwill not that long ago...they were pulling random LPs out of the boxes and showing each other the covers, asking "How about this one? Does this look nice?"

I can only assume they were interested not in the records themselves, just the covers, for an art project of some kind.

Years ago my then-girlfriend (now my wife) and her Mom spent over an hour in a record store looking for the new Eminem CD for her brother's birthday -but since neither of them had any idea who Eminem was, they were looking in the "M" section for "M&M," like the candy. When they finally broke down and asked a store employee for help, they felt very stupid. :D

I laughed like hell when she told me that -- I was like "Geez, I may be totally out of it and un-hip but even *I* know who Eminem is." :D

Thought of another one from my misbegotten youth --

Was working in another store in the same local chain. We had a 50 count cardboard record box on a visible shelf behind the counter for returns. Someone put a handwritten sign on the front face that said "Return For Re-Grooving." At least once a week a customer would see it and ask, "They can do that?"

I guess I have the "look" of someone who works in a record store so whenever I visit one invariably someone will ask me a question...personally I love being asked since I always think that my answer may provide some joy that they wouldn't have had without my input...everyone was a novice regarding their favorite artist at one point in time...

One time that happened to me and I stopped and answered the question, then mentioned that I did not actually work at the store. They asked me why I was straightening up the records bins then. Apparently I subconsciously straighten up the racks as I browse and move out of place albums back to the correct place without really thinking about it. That nerdy record librarian streak runs deep.

Not exactly overheard, but I remember the CD section at Wal-mart once had a divider labeled "RAIDO HEAD"

A few years ago, two people I know were talking about Fleetwood Mac and also referred to Lindsey Buckingham as being one of the women in the group. I told them that Lindsey Buckingham's a man, and they both gave me a look like I had no idea what I was talking about.

    "Raido Head" sounds like a monster robot in a 50's Sci-Fi B-movie. :)
