    Moderator note!

Before posting in this thread please read the OP's words highlighted in bold text and kindly adhere to his request. Posts that ignore this request will be classed as either thread craps or trolling.

I'll also sum up the thread rules!

    1. No discusion or questions related to DVD's & BR's being locked or region coded!
    2. No discussion of where or how to buy a region free players

In other words treat this thread as though there never has been, or never will be any region coding and that no matter where in the world you are the discs will play in your player!

    UPDATE! 21/08/2018

    Just to clarify.....

    1. This thread is for the discussion of any and all DVD's regardless of region coding for those who have multi region players.

    2. So pretend that we live in a world where region coding doesn't exist and where all discs will play in any player.

    3. Finally, if you don't have a region free player and region coding is a problem for you then please do not post in this thread at all....

Simples! as Aleksander the meerkat would say.

I picked this up this weekend for $4. Local store was having a 40% off used blu-ray sale. Region B PAL.

@hodgo - then my post needs to be removed, as my Oppo is not Region Free, and the two titles I listed are. VERY confusing.

Why is a thread needed on this at all then, since they can play anything ???

And a few other more recent acquisitions that fit this thread...

I try to stick to Region A/1 whenever possible, but sometimes the foreign presses have different Special Features or are just not available.

Terminator: Rise of the Machines-UK - I just received this today, it's a Sony release, compared to the US Warner Bros. with lossless audio and improved picture quality!
Also, this UK Sony title is region-free.

Little Murders from Indicator - You would think this dark masterpiece would get a BD in the US at some point but I grabbed this immediately.
eXistenZ from 101 - Three commentaries from some of my favorite people: Cronenberg, Kim Newman & Nathaniel Thompson.
Irma Vep from Arrow - A US release from Arrow or Criterion seems probable but I hadn't seen it in ages.

Of course if you are a Hammer fan Dracula, The Devil Rides Out, Quatermass & The Pit and others are musts.

Just ordered Death Laid An Egg and Lady Frankenstein from Nucleus Films. The US DLAE was a massive botch and LF stars Rosalba Neri nuff said.

So thrilled to learn that a weak source was used for Sinbad & The Eye Of The Tiger in the Indicator Sinbad Trilogy but I got a replacement.

The New title created yesterday, along with the OP's original unedited post make it quite clear that this thread is for those members with REGION FREE players.

I've now edited my post from yesterday, the new portion of which I'll repeat here......

There was a lot of discussion of this issue over on Blu-ray.com at the time, but I believe this is the first time it’s been mentioned here. Yes, with this being a limited edition, I’d get on to them right away, if I were you. Their customer service is excellent, so, hopefully, they can still sort you out.

There have been a few Indicator replacement programs. Fat City is another, so, if you bought an early copy of that, check to see if your BD is marked with a small “V2” on the outer edge.

Although I don’t have this title, I do have several from Second Run. One of the best niche labels out there.

Currently watching and enjoying Second Sight's BluRay edition of Heimat. Superb film and superb BluRay.

So tempted by this one, but I’ve just started working again after being off for four months, so I have some catching up to do. I really want the Woodfall box set, plus Criterion are seriously knocking it out of the park in Q3 and Q4. Decisions, decisions.

Just recieved today from the recent Eureka! Sale, the dual format of Wooden Crosses (1932).

Cool thread. I got so tired of region code whining. Went region-free with a dvd player 10 years ago , then a r-f blu-ray player.

Picked up the new 40th Anniversary CE of The Deer Hunter this morning. 1 x 4K UHD/2 x BD/soundtrack CD/64-page booklet/script of The Man Who Came to Play/five artcards. Lovely stuff.

Yes, I got that earlier in the week. Now to find the time to watch it. You 4K ready?

No, not yet. The kind of arthouse/world cinema stuff that I typically buy is almost nonexistent in the new format, so I’m reluctant to make the leap at the moment.

I usually go for whatever the top-level edition is, and The Deer Hunter is no exception. I took a look at the standard edition, but was seduced by all the bells and whistles of the CE.

    Can you play 4K?

Yes, since Christmas. But I needed a new TV so it made sense to do so. I only have about 10 4K discs because most films on the format are modern CGI-infested superhero crap.

    Sweet.

Our telly is only four years old, so I’m not in the market for a new one just yet.

Hopefully, the market for 4K will mature, and we’ll start to see more interesting titles being released. Still plenty MIA from BD.

Thanks for the heads-up on the new 4K "Deer Hunter"; have to get that.
A quick recommendation (I put a review up on the 'recent DVD/BR' thread): "The Addiction" by Abel Ferrara, a decidedly different vampire film. If you know Ferrara, you know how he gets...:)
The film looks phenomenal on the new Arrow BR release, absolutely jaw-dropping B/W photography in a superb transfer.

Just watched The Deer Hunter this afternoon. I hadn’t seen it in many years, and my girlfriend had never seen it before. Still a devastating experience.

The new restoration looks wonderful, btw. Highly recommended.

Yes, I watched that last week followed by the Italian, English-friendly disc of Ferrara’s China Girl. Both discs have great transfers.

I stuck in a preorder this morning for Criterion’s Ingmar Bergman box set. Amazon.com currently has it listed at $195, which works out at £189, including import fees. At the present time, this is the best price available to the U.K. Given the rights situation, the box is highly unlikely to be released over here.

Now to persuade my other half to make this my Xmas present.
