I was wondering if the clip was actually the first showing the new line up or someone can point me to one earlier. This is supposedly from 30 December 1966 on French TV. I believe the two had joined in Nov 1966.

Looks like this is earliest with this lineup.
    Good find.
Best info is think the new lineup formed quickly circa Oct. after Laine announced departure Oct. 1

it probably is the earliest clip with the classic 'mark 2' Moodies line up - they initially cut 'Really Haven't Got The Time' in 1966 when Denny Laine was still in the band (it was performed live with Denny and temporary bassist Rodney Clark - there may be German 'Beat Club' footage of this as there is of them doing 'Bye Bye Bird' with Clark) but it remained unissued at the time - out now as a bonus track on a deluxe CD box set of 'The Magnificent Moodies' debut album of 1965

While Denny left in October 1966 he still was still featured as lead vocalist on the next Decca single issued in January 1967
    - 'Life's Not Life' c/w 'He Can Win'

they then re-cut Mike's 'Really Haven't Got The Time' this time featuring Justin and John on backing vocals with Ray and it was used as 'B' side to the next Decca single Justin's song 'Fly Me High' early in 1967

here is the Denny Laine line up with Rodney Clark on bass doing the song in 1966 on German 'Beat Club'

Mike Pinder is a hell of a top keyboardist !

one of his sons - also named Mike (I think it is) - now looks so much like his dad does here in this 1966 clip...!

One of the moments in rock history I would have liked to have been a witness to is when Tony Clarke discovered the Hayward/Pinder/Thomas/Lodge could harmonize their voices so well. I think I would have cried with joy. :)

Any date on this actual performance instead of the broadcast date, and does it sound like a live/real performance instead of one synced to a record?

All I know for sure is... this band is so soon to be the "Moody Blues"
that we all know and loved.. bright stars, and one of the early all-time
true unsung hero bands of what would be known as progressive music.

Ok, anyone know what the earliest video performance was of any track from the Days of Future Passed? I understand some of the songs were being worked out on stage before the recording of the album itself.
I noticed that Youtube's filters do not seem to allow a specific subset for that.

    Cheers

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the Bouton Rouge clip you posted actually from a different show called "Le Soir en Danse" (the title is shown in the beginning of clip. ) aired July 1968. ??
The "Nights" clip is def. the earliest find

Sorry about my incomplete thought on the question. Actually the album came out in late 1967, but what I wondered was if someone had a clue as to the first live filmed of any song BEFORE the album came out. I saw that "Nights" was performed "live" in May 1967 and since the boys had been working stage material months before that, it seemed natural to perform some of the tunes filmed live before the album came out. Thus, at this stage, it looks like May 1967(?), or does someone have a link to a DOTFP song captured on film before that May 1967 performance?

    I did find this:

9 May 1967 BBC Sessions "Saturday Club"
Taping Date Set List includes "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and the very first recording of "NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN"

and this for the 9 may 1967 date:

    1. Fly Me High
      Play Video
    2. Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood
      (Nina Simone cover)
      Play Video
    3. Nights in White Satin
      (Premiere)
      Play Video
    Note: Saturday Club appearance, broadcas

I know, I know, short story, long explanation :)

    Cheers

    Carlos
