reading the Barry Diament DIY vibration control article, here: http://www.barrydiamentaudio.com/vibration.htm he refers to "Easter egg holders" that you're supposed to put a marble in. and then, place the component on maybe I'm daft, but isn't a marble going to be sitting at the bottom of the cup? so how are you going to balance your component on the marble? I did a google search for "Easter egg holder" images & didn't see anything that would function like that? can someone please enlighten me? thanks!
Maybe you are thinking of too large a cup, and too small a marble? If those we in the right proportions... I think the missing piece of the puzzle is the Easter egg holder, it must be small? Bottom line, is I have no idea on this one
yeah you would need a 3 inch marble to fit in there with enough height....but then it wouldn't be able to roll because it would be jammed in there, like an egg! hmm...what if I just used an egg? they're full of fluid, too.....so you could have fluid damping as well...but I wouldn't want to put anything heavier than a couple ounces on top of the eggs
Maybe he means that you need to turn the holders upside down?? The bottom would have an indent that is much smaller than the cup on top. It looks as if turning them upside down might offer better support due to the size of the top cup. Just guessing (as I frequently do!)
hey, good point although you'd think he'd say "upside down easter egg holders" maybe I'll just shoot him an email & ask
Here's what I do. 1 1/2" PVC pipe end caps, upside down, with Superballs sitting on them. Then, the turntables sit on the Superballs. Very cheap, and very effective isolation from the floor. But you must use genuine black Superballs, not cheap imitations.
