is it me or do all the Elliot smith reissues sound like crap? Either or And his self title and both are very noisy without being played more than a handful of times? I know vinyl isn't perfect but if it's popping every few seconds it ruins the music. I have plenty of other acoustic style rock that sound great these sound like yard sale throw aways.

shouldn't there be a rule that if you can't spell an artist's name correctly you shouldn't start a thread?

Maybe so. But in some parts of the world folks referred (and still refer) to records as vinyls. I have a Vietnamese friend who grew up this way. "My vinyls = my records." Nothing wrong with that is there?

Why does he have to be Vietnamese? Why are you bringing race into this?

I'm not, just adding a little context to "some parts of the world" refer to records as vinyls. In her world and community, the term is vinyls. Like Americans say Fries, and the British say Chips. Its interesting to learn of language/terminology around the world.

There will be no end to the "vinyls" ribbing, zboski! Thinks of it as an element. "Oxygens", "Plutoniums", "Phosphoruses". It just doesn't work!

Well, the fact that people make mistakes doesn't make certain words or phrases grammatically correct.

WOw that got off subject real quick. I just wondered why when I have a good setup and even my old vinyl sound better. They are clean as could be I even ran a special formula cleaner with a felt like brush. I have a friend who is a sound engineer and he said it is that vinyl is an imperfect format. I just wanted to know others experience with those specifics before I buy anymore. He's in my top 5 favorite musicians but if they aren't clean I'd rather just have the digital format

He's in my top tier also, and I don't have any of his vinyl yet. Was looking thru discogs and the comments definitely point to mediocre pressings, which is too bad because Elliott's music is basically made for vinyl. It's so warm, so quiet, with so much room for atmosphere.

    XO, Either/Or & S/T (2017 European reissues) - excellent
    Figure 8 (2013 European reissue) - excellent

These are the Smith vinyl I own. All of them sound great, quiet and flat.
