I've never understood all the love for Brain salad Surgery. Yes, it is a an ok album, but it always gets mentioned as ELP's masterwork. Karn evil 9 is an excellent 30 minute prog-piece, but it is preceded by the throwaway "benny the Bouncer", the poorly mixed, laughable lyrics of "Still...you turn me on", the noisy, discordant (and this is coming from someone who loves late period Coltrane) "Tocatta" and the dull "Jerusalem" I think Trilogy, Tarkus, and the self-titled debut (in that order) kick BSS to the curb. I will give BSS some props for being better than the two Works collections, Love Beach, and Pictures at an exhibition. Anyone here agree?
