I 'm hoping Clapton will bring out the best in the Stones and that they will bring out the best in him. While the Stones are at it, why don't they invite Jeff Beck and Mick Taylor to play on a few tracks. Then after that, call up Jimmy Page, tell him that it's a blues album and that Eric, Jeff, and Mick Taylor are already on board and ask him to come on down.

They should invite Dick Taylor from the Pretty Things as well

In the 60's this would all be easy. Feasible.
Like a lot of young, successful performers do today. Doing All sorts of get togethers.
For these old guys, the egos, and the obstructionist management of the organisations and the entourage that has concreted itself in place around them have all grown considerably since then.

He can't. He has another excuse not to do any work. He's busy being sued.

They probably don't want to project a message that they do not have any competent blues guitarists and therefore they are bringing in a revolving door of superior players.

I hope the Stones write an album of originals that stand up to their glory days.

a blues cover album is .................o.k.
    ...........I guess..........

I think every Stones fan secretly wants them to write a few "classic tunes" one last time.

Just bought the deluxe stripped box (5 disc version)
and just finished watching the Amsterdam show.
    MAN!
    It was AWESOME!
could be the best performance ever.

I wish they would write a new album of songs that could stand head and shoulders with all that great old material.
If Mick and Keith would reach really deep we might get something timeless again.

    fingers crossed

Keith apparently said, after the Paradiso show, that it was the best gig he could remember doing.

That's a matter of perspective though. When Exile on Main Street was released, no one jumped up exclaiming "classic tunes!" The songs acquired that classic status over the decades. No matter how good songs they can possibly muster now, old fans will feel let down, because it's not songs they know and love and have fond memories of.

'A Bigger Bang' is a better effort than it gets credit for, and it sounds better on vinyl than it does on CD.

In hindsight, Voodoo Lounge is better than 3 or 4 of the albums before it. Side 4 is STUNNING. I could lose Moon Is Up, Sweethearts Together, and Mean Disposition to tighten things up a bit, but they don't annoy me. It's a sprawling, ambitious double album in a similar vein to Exile.

I completely agree; it is slightly too long, but there is a very good album's worth of material included, and I often find myself listening to it. I would say that the core tracks are more consistent than many of their late 70's and 80's releases.

I would be very pleased if the new album is as strong.

Sometimes, the mastering on vinyl pressings far outweighs any of the supposed downfalls.

Meh, the lyrics are cheese but it's a cool groove.

In this month's Tape Op mag, Don Was alludes to there being an album's worth of unreleased songs taken to completion from Voodoo/Bridges/Bang sessions, "good stuff." I'd be intrigued, because I'm sure there's some hidden gems in that trove...

Another "new" Stones album a la Some Girls or Exile bonus discs? Bring it on!

And maybe it don't just relegate it to a bonus disc. I feel like those last two don't get enough credit! They mix the modern Stones with some classic songwriting and inspiration. It's such a killer combo.

    Bigger Bang
is the Stones most underrated album.
I'd say a good half at least is "better than good" tracks...........maybe great.....
    time will tell.

why, Sweethearts Together is one of my faves.
Isn't that the one about Mick and Keith?
I've read that but forget where.

The point is, these guys can play the blues in their sleep..."Back Of My Hand" is a good example. Probably the best song on the album, IMO.

It's the "mmm, smells like caviar" line that makes me slightly nauseous ;). Musically, it's fine.
