As I said over at SDE, it's weird that out of all the Cars albums, Panorama is getting a deluxe edition! Especially before Heartbeat City!

I love Candy-O and will definitely pick this one up. Has any of this material circulated before? (Is the "Northern Studios" version of "Night Spots" the same version on the Just What I Needed compilation, for example?)

I never really got into Panorama, but I'm just have to give it another shot now.

Especially since I just recently bought their vinyl box set of reissues. Man!

  5. Why do I feel like the only person that digs Panorama?

I obviously enjoy the first two the most, but I spent many a day cruising in my Trans Am to Panorama as well.

I pre-ordered both. I sadly missed out on the 2 CD set of their first album (I know you can still find it on the used market but never got around to getting it.

I own all the Cars SACDs that have been released these last few years by Mobile Fidelity so Candy O - the SACD will be my go to for that album. Mainly getting this expanded for the bonus mixes.

I know many Cars fans are wishing MoFi can eventually release Panorama on SACD also. I would buy it for sure.

Its also nice that these are being released in the summer since it is the best season to listen to The Cars. :)

  7. Pre-ordered both. Appreciate the heads up!

Shooting For You was recorded for Heartbeat City. So I am guessing they also recorded it for Panorama?

Ric gave the song to Alan Vega for his Just A Million Dreams album.

Yay bonus tracks! The albums themselves all have great gold disc masters (aside from Panorama) so I'm in, but only for the extra tracks.

I'm not biting, i'm perfectly happy with the existing vinyl i have of"Candy-O", same with the first album. I've always felt most of these "expanded" editions are a scam, looking at the extra tracks this one's no different.

Candy-O sounds marvelous on MFSL but it would be nice to hear the new mix.

I've got the "monitor mixes" version of Candy-O.

And the demo version of S/T, which is pretty good.

  15. These don't appeal to me. The Cars to me are about studio perfection, so demos and "monitor mixes" will likely leave me disappointed. Also every newer Cars remaster seems to reduce the DR significantly.
    Example: Candy-O
    1985 DR=15
    2016 DR=9
    2017 DR=?

I love Panorama -- my favorite Cars album. How do you write songs like that? Inside-out. Curious to hear the previously unreleased tracks,

    True.
Hopefully, potential lackluster sales of this expanded Panorama won't put the "kibosh" on other planned deluxe editions... Since Panorama seems to be "less loved" than the others.

(For the record, I really like Panorama.)

Interestingly, the regular CD has been OOP for several years - Amazon is hawking new copies for $42 !!!

IIRC, for a time, there was a boxed collection of all the original Cars CDs selling for much less than that...

The most enticing part of these sets are the two b-sides. I doubt that's enough to grab me, however.

I wish these were fleshed out a bit more. There were some tantalizing things mentioned on the Edsel reissues that were canceled.

I'm part of that small minority that considers Panorama the Cars finest moment so this is exciting news for me. Thanks for sharing.

Have they already done a deluxe edition of the first album?

FWIW, both of those b-sides have made it to CD before, on 1995's excellent Just What I Needed compilation. Easily to find still.

I'd Rank Panorama #3 and Door to Door #4 (close call with Shake It Up) I really don't care for heartbeat city except for the title track

eelkiller Technically right but still wrong

I think Paul Sinclair's web page mentioned they are using the same mastering from 2016 for the album tracks so you can project ahead with the numbers. Guaranteed single digits. :-popcorn:

  25. If that is the case, pre-order cancelled. I have lp's and an a very blah' WG Target s/t cd, no need to add a sickly remaster to that lot.
