There are speed issues on a few of the bonus tracks

Dear, Lord. That is AWFUL! Obviously playing way too fast.

This on the other hand, has been my favorite song since it was uncovered over the summer.

  6. The previous Rhino deluxe Cars titles sound decent, not exactly audiophile but I suggest they’re essential for the bonus tracks alone. I’ve preordered mine. :tiphat:

I was disappointed with the first two reissues. The demos on Candy-O were (1) not all previously unreleased (namely "They Won't See You"), yet (2) taken from inferior sources and (3) obviously played back at the wrong speed (it's not hard to tell, at all). "They Won't See You" sounds much better on The Cars Deluxe Edition set, and plays at the right speed there.

Panorama was better, although the ending of "The Edge" is sloppily edited into "Don't Go To Pieces"...

I think that was intentional. The Cars always enjoyed the segues.

That's correct. But to all the completists out there. it's still missing the 'hello again (dub version)', that was on the b-side of the 12 inch.

so another lost track doesn't get added to the proper list of bonus tracks.

oh well, still going to get both of these releases anyways.

why in the world would they put 'tonight she comes' on here, sure it might
from the same era, but its easy to find on their greatest hits.

Yikes. The mastering on that is super over-compressed!

  16. I don’t hate it. Any Cars is good cars as far as I’m concerned. I’m not optimistic however about an expanded DTD but it would be welcome.

It certainly sounds a little unfinished but I love the quirky 1981 sound. If they had retained some of that when they'd done Door To Door it might've been held in higher regard.

For quite a long time I went under the impression that it wasn't a very good album, being as I didn't really find it memorable after listening to it when it first came out. I never even bothered to buy a copy. I just continued to not even think about listening to it for years, until getting on a Cars kick not that long ago, and deciding maybe I should give it another chance. As luck would have it, this was right around the time the vinyl box set came out, so I ended up getting it as part of that set. I was pleasantly surprised to discover it was a actually a decent album, and not at all the somehow terrible record I had made it out to be in my memory for all those years.

The demo version of "Drive" is so much fun to hear.

The liner notes on these things are cool too. I picked up both 'Heartbeat City" and "Shake It Up" this afternoon. Looking forward to listening more!
