What is the best pressing of this album? People who have heard more than one release please chime in.

Is the Speakers Corner reissue as good as it gets or is a first press still king? Other contenders ?

Which is best of those 2? I wont go for them since I think the best contenders are either the UK first or Speakers Corner reissue, but it might be nice for others to know.

I have the Speakers Corner and it’s lovely. The 45rpm in the boxset is canny too.

I believe the UK original is the same as the German pressing - they are both made in Germany by Sonopress. That was the case for much of the Arista albums of the day.

I can vouch for my Canadian PolyGram original with the custom labels, even though I have nothing to compare it to except a (probably inferior) Columbia House copy. Get this - the PolyGram retail copy is pressed from UK/Euro metalwork. It has a crossed out "Made in Germany" in the runout on both sides. Dunno how much value it has compared to an UK/Euro original, but I would believe it to be an affordable way of getting the original mastering.

I admittedly haven't listened to my original in years, but from memories it's a airy, crisp, lush experience. Honest - I have ZERO idea how a Speakers Corner reissue would compare.

Interestingly, the US Monarch pressings also have the crossed out "Made in Germany" in the runout.

Just played it and it's still stunning for its age and the many plays over the years FC.

You mean the Canadian release with the struck-thru "Made in Germany" in the runouts, right? :D

Nice, ever compared to originals? And what box set do you mean?

There was a box set released for the album's 35th anniversary, presenting it in, among other media, a double-45 format. It's a half-speed cut by Miles Showell and pressed by Czech GZ.

Man I almost bought the 2012 MOV, but then I threw on my old US...
As long as you find a non compressed re-issue/ remaster on wax, I really don't think you can go wrong with any, it was a nice sounding recording to begin with.

MOV is something I generally avoid. Not because they are bad, if there only is one reissue label thats done an album then Id be glad if it were them over a lot of others, the vinyl is quiet and its usually pretty clear sounding. But most of the time there are just better pressings out there.

Edit - Actually mine is not a promo. It is a US Sterling Electrosound (EMW) pressing. Sounds fabulous.
