    Anybody like them?

Fanny, the original "godmothers of chick rock", were the first all-female rock band to be signed to a major label. They toured from 1970-1975, wrote and arranged their own songs, released five albums, and had a number of international hit singles. But most importantly, they played hundreds of fantastic live concerts for thousands and thousands of fans and were instrumental in founding the modern world of women in rock. Many major women rock artists - from Joan Jett to Girlschool to Courtney Love and many, many more - were able to get to the top because Fanny broke down the barriers and opened the way.

Here's their fantastic cover of Hey Bulldog.

Their version of Cream's "Badge" was so good and interesting (and different enough) that Clapton used their's as a template for his live version in the early 90s, the one on 24 Nights I think it is. At least it sounds like it to me.

The Todd-produced "Mothers Pride" is brilliant-- their best album and one of his best productions.

Weren't Ace of Cups signed to a major, however briefly?

Yes I remember them. I have a couple of their albums, but never saw them in concert.

Oh, they worked with producer Richard Perry in London, got to hang out with members of the band "The Beatles." They got a good run for it, it's not like they never got their chance.

Their last (and most well known) single, Butter Boy, may have a lot of silly sexual puns, but it totally rocks out!

Fanny featured 2 or 3 of Suzi Quatro's sisters, and the mother of actress Sherilyn Fenn, IIRC. They evolved from a Detroit garage band, the Pleasure Seekers, which featured a 16 year old Suzi on bass, along with 2-4 of her sisters and perhaps a brother, as well.
But Goldie & The Gingerbreads, featuring a young Goldie Zelkowitz(later to be known as Genya Ravan) were signed to major before Fanny.

I stand corrected. Patti was in Fanny, not Arlene. I could've sworn Arlene was in Fanny, as well. Getting old sucks.

Alice DeBuhr and I worked together at A&M Records ...She was the drummer....I saw them in 1971 at a Holiday Inn on the BW Parkway at a Reprise Records showcase..Then when we started working together we both laughed about that showcase...

The thread title threw me then. I thought somebody was blatantly breaking forum rules.

Fanny means something different in Australia.......

I also have several Cris Williamson albums that have former Fanny members playing on them.

It's non-US English slang for either a ****** or a woman's pubic area depending on context.
Think the cover for Montrose's 'Jump On It' and you've got it.

    Spot on.

I've only ever seen the early photos of this band. I didn't know they had such an image change. I'll be checking out these links when I get home from work.

Rhino Handmade issued an excellent box of Fanny's entire Reprise output with a lot of extras on it. Cherry Red issued the fifth album (originally on Casablanca) last year.

Nickey Barclay, Fanny's brilliant keyboard player, pianist/vocalist/songwriter, made a solo album around 1976 that's well worth hearing. A year or two after that, June and Jean Millington made formed the duo Millington for one album on UA with soul/disco leanings. Also enjoyable.
