I always liked the use of the Go-Go's "Speeding" in this movie.

A store near me has a new-old-stock copy of this since forever... asking price 10 bucks. Should I try it, even if I haven't seen the film yet? Looks like a solid lineup on that one.

Did I read that track list correctly? The Cars song "Moving In Stereo" is not included on the soundtrack???

Uhh, the most famous scene in that movie - the reason why we watched that movie two thousand times, the reason why we bought a VCR player with a pause button - is the Phoebe Cates scene and "Moving In Stereo" is the song being played. How can one not include the most famous song from the most famous scene from that film on its soundtrack? That's like not including the shark's theme on the JAWS soundtrack album.

Here's the song, not the scene:

Great film, but not a good soundtrack, unfortunately. The catch in getting Irving Azoff to fund the film was giving the soundtrack over to Azoff's moldy 70s artist roster. The contemporary material/artists that the characters would actually have been listening to was passed over with a few exceptions, Go-Gos, Oingo Boingo, Cars.
If one is looking for a perfect soundtrack to a film on the same subject in the same timeframe, I would recommend Valley Girl, in particular the two Rhino soundtrack volumes.

The only thing that ' spings' to mind when I hear or see that movie title is , indeed , Phoebe Cates in the pool.

That's cool. I like Somebody's Baby and the Stevie Nicks track a lot. I can tell ya that no teenagers frequenting the Sherman Oaks Galleria in 1982 would have been caught dead listening to Timothy B. Schmit solo records and Jimmy Buffett tho.

Does the soundtrack feature "Kashmir" from Led Zeppelin IV?

This is one of the greatest films of all-time. The soundtrack fits perfectly within the film. I’m not sure if it really stands alone in isolation from it, however.
