    '90 the La's, "The La's"'
    '91 My Bloody Valentine, "Loveless"
'92 R.E.M., "Automatic for the People"
'93 Liz Phair, "Exile in Guyville"
    '94 Nas, "Illmatic"
    '95 Pulp, "Different Class"
'96 Sloan, "One Chord to Another"
'97 Radiohead, "OK Computer" / Sleater-Kinney, "Dig Me Out"
'98 Air, "Moon Safari" / Lucinda Williams, "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road"
'99 Low, "Secret Name" / the Flashing Lights, "Where the Change Is"

During the actual decade itself, I thought the early part of the decade ('91-'93 in particular) was by far the best part, with the emergence of grunge and alternative rock in general. In retrospect, the late '90s seem to be the most exciting part, given that that's when you really start to see the characteristic qualities of 21st-century indie-rock emerge (see the Sleater-Kinney above), as well as a lot of excellent music outside of that idiom.

I really enjoy this thread and others like it. I'm very interested in seeing other people's choices. I'm interested in how diverse some posts are and then again how focused some are on a particular style or genre. I'm always looking at who picks the same albums I have picked. The choices make me think about how young or old members might be based on their choices. It's just fun, curious stuff to me.

This is a tough exercise, but for sure 1991 would be Amy Grant-Heart In Motion and 1994 would be Amy Grant-House of Love and 1997 would be Amy Grant-Behind The Eyes

My third favourite decade after 1970s and 1960s is worth it.

1990: Jordan: The Comeback - Prefab Sprout
1991: Rumor and Sigh - Richard Thompson
    1992: Automatic for the People - R.E.M.
1993: World Gone Wrong - Bob Dylan
    1994: Universal Mother - Sinead O'Connor
1995: Tomorrow the Green Grass - Jayhawks
1996: You, me, us - Richard Thompson
1997: Red Apple Falls - Smog
    1998: Mutations - Beck
1999: Mule Variations - Tom Waits

It really hurt not including any Jeff Buckley stuff, but I don't play it anymore.
    Radiohead from that decade likewise.

    Nah those guys stink!:p

    No really good call,
1990-Iron Maiden-The First ten Years EP Collection.I couldn`t actually afford these until years later.....
All of the singles from 1980-1989 complete with every B-side-some of wich strangely are still out of print. The cds will probably remain the best sounding digital versions.I have not directly compared every vinyl single and EP ever issued but it`s unlikely you will go wrong with any of these on vinyl being UK analog.
I hope the Reading and Beast Over Hammersmith shows will be reissued on vinyl as well as Maiden Japan and even Donnington`88!
They could beat all of those flawed bootlegs out of necessity so easily...

I've included some 'honourable mentions' because not all of these albums would get in my top 10 for the decade. In fact, I would rate all of the 'honourable mentions' ahead of Automatic For The People (still love it, though). I also think the late 90s was the best part of the decade (probably because of my age), especially 1997 when so many great albums were released.

90 - Public Enemy - Fear Of A Black Planet
    91 - Massive Attack - Blue Lines
    92 - R.E.M. - Automatic For The People
    93 - Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
    94 - Portishead - Dummy
    95 - Pulp - Different Class
    96 - Beck - Odelay
    97 - Radiohead - OK Computer
    98 - Elliott Smith - Either/Or (UK Release)
99 - Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin

    Honourable Mentions:
Spiritualized - Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
    Radiohead - The Bends
    Jeff Buckley - Grace
    Bjork - Post, Homogenic
Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs
    Nirvana - Nevermind, In Utero
    Tricky - Maxinquaye
Belle & Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call

Lorrie Morgan's albums were all great, John Anderson's Seminole Wind is another great album, Dixiana's self-titled album is awesome, Reba McEntire had excellent 90s albums, and many others.

Too many great albums from that decade (mostly from 1991 - 1997) too choose just 1 for each and even the ones I chose are not all I love from the 90s.
