The poll tool didn't allow me to include all of The Residents albums (they are that many!), so I decided to do one on the albums that are included in their so called "Classic Series"-era:
    http://www.residents.com/historical4/classic/index.html

It's hard to decide, but I eventually ended up choosing Eskimo. It's extremely well thought out (I love the concept), artistic, scary as hell and most of all Trademark The Residents LAUGH-OUT FUNNY!

I also adore Duck Stab and Fingerprince, while I view Meet The Residents and Not Available as a bit uneven. Third Reich 'N' Roll and The Commercial Album works best on special occasions.

    MOTIVATE your choice!

Honorary mentions goes to the following singles/EP's:

The debut Santa Dog, the hilarious cover of Satisfaction, the super funny The Beatles Plays The Residents and The Residents Plays The Beatles, and of course the epic remix of Eskimo, titled Diskomo, with it's B-side Goosebump, The Residents demented take on famous nursery rhymes.

Out of the thousands of recordings I have listened to in my life, Meet the Residents (the 1974 mono version, specifically) is one of only two albums I consider to be perfect (the other is The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady by Charles Mingus).

2nd place in the poll goes to Not Available.

"Meet The Residents" is my favorite as well. I perceive it to be their most imaginative album, and while the band employed plenty special effects, they sound more homebrew than any of their subsequent material. I prefer the mono version as well. It's mystique and magic were lost on the stereo edition OMO. I have the ESD CD with "Santa Dog".

Duck Stab is the one I know best.

Fingerprince! ALWAYS! For this is where my user name originates! Love the Duck Stab EP as well. And every winter, when there is a snow storm outside, Eskimo WILL be played.

  14. The Third Reich 'n' Roll. Great concept, brilliantly executed through a sonic landscape that varies from the silly and absurd to the dark and creepy. It takes you through a tour of the latter half of the '60s through a warped funhouse mirror reflection of the era's pop music.

I voted 3rd RnR simply because it's at least as strong as Meet and needs more votes. In some ways I would really argue it is their most imp0rtant album

But the Santa Dog 2x7 should be listed. Especially as the Duck Stand EP is.

I'm going with NA. I had to think about it for awhile.
If it hadn't been NA I would have gone with MTR.
I bought both when they were fairly still recent releases.
    NA was always my favorite.

    Hey!
I shoulda voted..... sorry I took so long....
and..... the winner (for me) IS.......
    MEET!
Just like Zappa's "We're Only In It For The Money", which I had only heard a few years earlier,
I was DYING to hear what a band that would be so sacrilegious to a Beatles album sound like.
And, just like "..Money", it SHOCKS you right from the get-go!

    On a side-note:
I often wish that someone would take that fight scene from "Kill Bill" that uses "Nobody But Me", and replace it with "ENN-ER-GEE (Crisis Blues)"
I assume the fight would go well against the crazy skip! I always sing, "BOOGALOO! Like I.... BOOGALOO! Like I... BOOGALOO! Like I..... BOOGALOO! Like I..."
Don't get me wrong. The ENTIRE 'Classic' era is an AWESOME set of albums.
A lovely 'progression'. A beautiful mixture of humor and experimentation that I've only found in a handful of bands.
It's forever turned me against any band (or artist) that's too 'ernest' in their work.
I'm spoiled of 'regular' music, and THEY'RE the reason!
And, I LOVE them for it!

...normally I'd post this in the "now playing" thread, but I really wanted to put it in a Residents only one. So here it tis... love this album! I voted Duck Stab, but on other days like today, this is my favorite.

    Euro Ralph CD, 1998 ((Stereo))

I also vote for Not Available

Not Available , Duck Stab ( including Goosebump) :
The music sounds like a cartoon movie from Hell and I love it!

All this madness accompanied by beautiful synth lines and jazz instruments.
    perfection!!!!

Walter westinghouse ( Fingerprince) is one of the most Hilarious and disturbing tracks I have ever heard , When the song almost comes to an end
the characters start to Attack , they are furious!
I thought that the characters are going to get out from the speakers to kidnap me into their own Hell LOL

I love Meet the Residents, essential!
