Simple enough - do you prefer Dennis DeYoung's voice or Tommy Shaw's?

Tommy has a better voice, but Dennis has the voice for epic stuff. Depends. I go Tommy for this poll.

i've always loved tommy's voice and songs. i have just about everything he's released. i have all his solo records, damn yankees, styx studio records, shaw/blades records. about the only thing i don't have are the endless live compilations styx has released in recent years. love, love, tommy's voice. and the great thing is, it's still as great as it ever was.

I prefer Dennis' voice, except when he overuses those affectations.

Styx just isn't Styx without Dennis IMO.

  10. Hey, why leave out this guy? ;)

Correct answer is James Young. His songs rocked the hardest.

DeYoung by far. He was the voice of most of their hits, and whose voice I "hear" when I think of Styx.

DDY. Love Tommy's songs as well, but sometimes his recorded vocals sounded a bit strained.

Neither. Each singer is only as good as his song. Same with JY.

Poll say "best", yet title says "favorite". Those can be two different things.

Dennis DeYoung is technically better than Shaw, so he would be the "best", but Shaw sang better songs which would be "favorite " of the two.

Tommy gets best vocalist, best guitarist, best writer.

For the rockin' stuff, Tommy. But, for the others, Dennis. His voice fits the theatrics to go along with it.

I also like JY when he sings his songs.

They all have great voices in that band. Dennis's voice is professional sounding and his technique is amazing. Tommy Shaw sounds like he's more of a self-taught vocalist. I like both their styles too much to decide. JY is my least favorite out of the three but he's still awesome.

I have to agree with this statement. JY has the harder edged songs though. Just wish Half Penny Two Penny would go back in their set. JY and Tommy really tore up that one.
