It has all come down to this. The final fab four do battle with Betfair saying Baba O'Riley is the one to beat. Which will get your vote?

Easily The Who and Baba O'Riley for me - as an opener, not just a great song.

Makes it all worth while, that.

There is a lot to go through and arrange, research and even more so with the new project, Favourite Closing Songs, sixteen groups, sixteen songs per group - starts tomorrow!

I think it was @Parachute Woman said she wanted Gimme Shelter to win the whole thing? It stands a very good chance by the look of it.

War, Children, IS a shot away if Bleed don’t win.

All solid contenders, but “Gimme Shelter” is the score of the turbulent late 60s—thus giving it the win.

I love Gimme Shelter as an opener.

But I can also throw in some honourable mentions: Conquistador on Live at Edmonton by Procol Harum. Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash from at Folsom: Blue Suede Shoes by Elvis Presley from Live at the International Hotel, 1969: Wearing That Loved On Look by Elvis from Elvis In Memphis. Meat Man by Jerry Lee Lewis from Southern Roots: Melting Pot by Booker T & The MGs: And It Stoned Me by Van Morrison from Moondance.

I have a lot of "more favourite"s than these four. I don't think any of them is on my top-10 openers.

Yes, indeed. I have cast my vote for it. 'Gimme Shelter' is everything a great song and everything a great album opener should be.
My second place pick would be Like a Rolling Stone, which would also be a very deserving winner.

Gimme Shelter is my choice from these.
It is my favourite Stones song anyhow, but it is a classic opener with the brilliant intro and one of the Stones most poignant lyrics. This is a fantastic song.
Like a Rolling stone just misses out. I love dylan and this is a fantastic song and a fantastic opener, but this is high level competition here.
Baba O'reilly is a great song, love the who, but it wouldn't be in my top 10 openers.
A hard days night is a great song, from a great album, but wouldn't even be in my top five Beatles openers.

If Abba won it, I'd eat my Y-fronts :agree: but @mark winstanley has it right - nothing changes whatever we prefer or vote for - polls are simply a recording of what folks have chosen, nothing more. The fact that The Beatles didn't sweep the board in the OPENING SONGS venture was a minor triumph for the forum but only because there is a huge Beatles fringe here - there was never an anti-Beatles theme, nor should there have been.

The polls are harmless fun, but also educate me where I am discovering a lot of music unknown to me before. The next venture on closing songs looks to be even more diverse and I'm sure 99% will be enjoying it soon.
