He's good, but he doesn't get enough work in Hollywood (heh heh).

Nightcrawler > a convincing creepy performance for sure, steller acting and no Oscar.

At the very least, it should have won best actor. No one gave as a convincing performance or blew me away in the way he did. Personally, I think it also should have won best picture, but I was ok with Birdman taking it, as that film too was pretty incredible.

Come to think of it Birdman was the better film. Incredible cast, and Micheal Keaton the better actor imo. Nightcrawler had a tour de force performance from Jake, but not enough to win. Compitition to tough. Not forgetting Birdman's director.

I just didn't think Jake had it in him. Keaton was nothing short of astonishing of course, but Jake had me absolutely convinced. The guy engrossed himself within the character. Just everything he did with it had me awe struck by his abilities. He carried that film, & his performance is what sticks with you way after the credits roll. Is it better than Birdman? Well I'm not entirely sure personally, as that film is a masterstroke of genius from one set piece to the next, however, the only actor from that year that was on that level was J.K. Simmons in Whiplash imo.

Its funny cause all three have me rooting immensely for the main character, even though I feel very differently about all of 'em. I've heard many call it a spiritual successor to Taxi Driver, which is my favorite film of all time, & I'd say it lived up to the hype :agree:

Since Philip Seymour Hoffman's passing, I think Joaquin Phoenix may be the most talented overall contemporary American actor. I wouldn't call him my favorite, but I respect the hell out of him.

My favorites are Bill Murray, Willem Defoe and Steve Buscemi.

Richard Jenkins and JK Simmons have been great in everything I've seen them in, and I always enjoy their work. Of course, living legends like Denzel, Hanks and Samuel L Jackson are always a treat to watch.

Chris Pratt used to crack me up on Parks and Rec, and it's cool to see him becoming a big star. His film choices aren't always up my alley, but he's very charismatic and likeable.

I'm sure there are a few more guys I'm forgetting.
