Excluded "Little 15", "Strangelove '88" and "Everything Counts (Live)".

    Just Can't Get Enough
    See You
    Everything Counts
    Personal Jesus
    Enjoy the Silence

"Everything Counts" to me was really their first great single.

There are many, many artists whose singles don't necessarily represent their best work, or who had huge hits that were almost singles by accident, but I think Depeche Mode almost always nails it in picking the best and most representative songs for singles.

Mostly I love them all, so it was hard to pick just 5 - Get The Balance Right, Strangelove, Never Let Me Down Again, Enjoy The Silence, Policy Of Truth. I don't really like Somebody or A Question Of Lust and Personal Jesus has become one of those songs I never really need to ever hear again.

Very tough choices. Depeche Mode were great in this era and I like all their singles and albums.

I went for Dreaming of Me and New Life as I like the sound of synth pop from the early 80s a lot and they are two favourites.

I then chose the sublime Enjoy The Silence and Get The Balance Right. I can't pinpoint why I like that one so much, I just do. Lastly, Everything Counts. They were starting to get their own sound together then.

I'm a big fan of all this era Depeche Mode, but my interest fades after Violator.

Little 15 was released as a single in some countries only, but should've been included as well. It's a true gem.

Picked my favorite single from each Alan Wilder-era album listed in the poll: "Everything Counts", "Master and Servant", "Stripped", "Never Let Me Down Again", and "Enjoy the Silence".

[If this poll included the Songs of Faith and Devotion singles, I'd have added "Walking in My Shoes".]

To me, these are perfect singles and remixes, that have not been matched since:

    1. Get the Balance Right! (1983)

    2. Everything Counts (1983)
    3. Love in Itself (1983)
    4. People Are People (1984)

    5. Master and Servant (1984)

Is there a singles collection that sounds good, and uses the proper single mixes?

There's only this original collection of singles 81-85 (DR 14):

    Depeche Mode - The Singles 81 → 85

The remastered version of this (DR 7) and the singles collection 86-98 (DR 6) are both very compressed.

And there are of course the first three singles box sets, originally released 1991 and re-released in 2004 with identical mastering. Unfortunately box sets #4-6 are very compressed, too.

    5. World In My Eyes

Tough to choose, but here are my (five) faves:

    - Dreaming Of Me
    - Just Can't Get Enough
    - Get The Balance Right
    - Everything Counts
    - Stripped

I even like the b-side of their first single, 'Ice Machine'.

Dreaming, Balance, Wheel, Love In Itself, and one of my favorite extended remixes of all time, the epic Never Let Me Down. In fact, I really only like these songs as remixes, and one in particular, the Behind The Wheel/Route 66 mashup (Megamix version), is very rare indeed. One of my prized possessions are the DM singles boxes-I wish other artists who made good use of the remix were as thoroughly chronicled as Depeche Mode.
