Not the crash cymbal, duh. The China! The China is awesome!

But other cool stuff incorporated into a song I like is the phone conversation with the telephone operator in Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar". This is United States calling, are we reaching? He keeps hanging up...

Točak's sublime guitar tone just after the strings intro always fascinated me on the same level as when I heard the song for the first time.

    • The congas on 'Midnight Rambler' by the Rolling Stones, played by Brian Jones.

    • The moog synthesizer at the outro on 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' by the Rolling Stones, again, played by Brian Jones.

    • The percussive effect that sounds to me like stick-played bongos or conga on 'London Town' by the Pretty Things.

    . . . . .

One of the things I often love about true mono mixes is the way in which adept placement of more subtle touches can add essential amalgamous textures to the intrinsic spaces within the sonic palette.

  9. "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" is full of nifty sound effects and quirks, all of which just add to the vibe.

I also love the sound of the surf and seagulls throughout "Theme From Island Weirdos" by Joe Walsh. It closes the album it's on, and on the vinyl pressing the sounds continue into the run out groove.

you are right, of course ~ it is a Hammond organ, and it is played by Wyman, not Jones. I've most likely conflated something I read decades ago, possibly in "The Rolling Stones : An Illustrated Record" by Roy Carr. It may have been incorrectly stated there, or I may possibly be recalling some lexis used by the author.

Ralph Mooney's steel guitar driving an otherwise nondescript honky tonk song. He barely takes a break in this one. Sheer bliss.

That synthesizer-like opening to Baba O'Riley, the preamble to one of rock's greatest LPs. Took me a long time to learn that Pete Townshend actually recorded a Lowrey Berkshire Deluxe organ, using the marimba repeat as the backing track. And then those guitars come in ...

solved : it was a conflation on my part. correction: it's a mellotron, not moog, which Brian plays - on 'We Love You', not 'JJF'.
