Sadly, "High Anxiety" cracked up last round, so we're left with three. Pick the ONE weakest link!
So hard to choose at this level. Looks like we're unanimous so far.
Next round will be brutal.
Not an easy choice, these are the three masterworks.
Good. but he lets Marty Feldman run too wild.
Plus, Zero Mostel happens to be my personal god.
with much pain I vote Producers off
Amazingly funny 40 years ago, dated cornball 2012.
it looks like the "Saddle" may be slipping.
If anyone has ever been close observing the producing game in theatre,: Mel Brooks with The Producers was not writing about some.... another situation. Every point of that timeless movie ran with razor sharp truth behind its comic face. The snonky characters, the phony front- some producers portray and spin about themselves , the gilded BS, and the silly made compromises, producers make to get something on stage, any way they can. I have the RCA vinyl recording which had contained an abridged potted soundtrack version of the entire film. The other two film still left here are detached Brooks spoofs... a step removed.
Producers. Love Mel's movies but I could never get into this one despite its classic status.
A bit of trivia: in Italy "Producers" was titled "per favore non toccate le vecchiette" (Please, don't touch little old ladies)...
I was only a teenager, but I was following NY theatre when "The Producers" was released. I loved that fact that every placard on Mostel's wall was a bona fide flop.
And the number of taboos Brooks violated in that movie is astonishing. Even more astonishing is that although taboo bashing comedy is more likely to become dated than other types, almost every scene in the producers remains funny.
Side note: I got to see Mostel on the stage once as Leo Bloom - James Joyce's Bloom in a rather strange work called Ulysses in Nighttown.
The Producers, but reluctantly.
Producers at this point.
And I'm surprised it isn't Young Frankenstein with all the votes.
I guess the next round won't be so difficult for me. Nothing wrong with YF but it's not nearly as good as the other two.
This isn't going the way it should!
My sentiments exactly. I voted for The Producers.
