Not exactly, but we moviegoers want true love and political expediency is not a substitute, especially in wartime.

Sure, but I still don't think Victor fits the thread. Victor was the opposite of a jerk - he was as noble and admirable as could be.

Honestly, in "Casablanca", Rick was closer to "classic jerk" territory - he was the "bad boy" in that scenario...

No Kidding! The ending of that movie was a complete shock to me, what a total bummer. I was so depressed, I only saw it once, in 1983.

I only saw it for the first time about 5 years ago. I'm glad it didn't see it as an impressionable kid growing up in the '80s. It would have messed me up!

I've never seen the original (Lemon Popsicle). Does it has the same ending?

Of course. The nice guy finishes last.

  8. The only real problem Blaine had I recall was his complete tone-deafness to the rigidities of the high school pecking order, but this sort of oversight would probably be true to his character.

  9. The problem with nice guys though is they're often doormats, and women like that less than they do the confident if goony guy.

It's only weird if you look at it from a male point of view, projecting yourself into the persona of Duckie. If you look at it from a woman's point of view, it does take on a more hopeful (if arguably somewhat superficial) tone.

I watched it again recently for the first time since the 80's. It's painfully obvious that Duckie is gay, and that Andie knew it (even if he didn't).

Didn't Forrest Gump kinda work out that way? Also, Bug.

PS. Andie was more mature than Duckie. That's why Pretty in Pink worked.

  17. I wasn't that he shot his reaction afterwards--that's a common thing and has been for years but it was the fact that he "fake cried" for the story. It lacked honesty in her opinion and transparency.

I loves me some red heads and certainly thought Molly Ringwald was a hottie, but I never really cared for the teen flicks of the era. I think I saw 16 Candles and Ferris Bueller, but never saw Pretty in Pink, Fast Times or The Breakfast Club.

Yeah, so he's cool 'n all - but how did Leia falling for him end up for everyone else in the galaxy?
