ahh sorry i was talking about album quality. musicwise. i only have original lad. the other albums are as i said. i think death on the roa is marvelous
If you include "LAD" in any Maiden live list, the outcome is pretty predictable It's a classic live album but you might want to wait until you find an original. If you want to buy a reissued title tomorrow, I'd go with "Flight 666", it's vintage stuff 80-88. Plus "Fear of the dark"
Black vinyl is what I have. It sounds great. Listened to it a few times front to back on headphones. These all sound great in my opinion, every one. The only one from the second wave I didn't care for was NPFTD which had some strange affect throughout that many attributed to compression.
Great show. Unfortunately LP 2 is pressed off center on side one, that the tone arm moves left to right so much affecting the sound. This sucks and I'm looking to replace my copy.
Thanks for the feedback, I need to pick these up. I wanted to grab POM last night but then I read that one of the channels are louder than the other?? That upsets me, for what these cost you'd think they'd put a little more effort in the production of these. I got screwed on my copy of Maiden England 88 and it really soured me on picking up anymore.
I don't know, I didn't notice any obvious flaws on POM. It sounds a bit different compared to my early copy, but not in a bad way, just different, and that's why I like it.
I know I'm going to get flack for this as this is a sound forum after all, but when Maiden released the picture disc vinyl back in 2013 I believe, I picked up the debut and Killers. Sure there is some slight swooshing between tracks, but once the tracks kick in, you don't hear it. I have to say the debut sounds incredible, and I've heard apart from the swooshing the 2014 black vinyl sounds the same. I still may pick up the black vinyl of the debut since I love it so much, but I think I'm good with the picture disc. Also, I have a sweet sounding original Canadian pressing on the yellow harvest label for the debut, as well as an EMI Fame CD that has the original version ending of Phantom of the Opera. This ending does not fade out, but has an extra vocal effect tagged on at the end after a bit of silence. I believe this originated on the original UK pressings. My Canadian does not have it. The CD sounds awesome as well. I'm a bit let down by my Canadian original copy of Powerslave, as it doesn't have the attack that I'd like. Also I have slight IGD at the end of each side. I hear the reissue for that is good, but wow have the prices gone up for that title.
Iron Maiden – Killers Label: Parlophone – 2564625242, Parlophone – EMC 3357 Format: Reissue Country: Europe Released: 13 Oct 2014 Mastered at Abbey Road Studios Lacquer Cut at Abbey Road Studios Mastered by Sean Magee Producer, Engineer – Martin "Headmaster" Birch This is the very first album I ever bought. I love it to the core! UP THE IRONS!
To me Killers reissue is pounding, exciting, alive, warm and most of all to be played loud, great! Ha! It makes me wonder about The Number Of The Beast reissue . Got this 1982 original of Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast and it's kinda polite, wanna check some different treatment for the album. I know TNOTB reissue was discussed here but what do you say about it now?
I like the Canadian pressing of the debut a lot. My favourites are the UK and JPN original pressings, very close behind those I rank the EMI100 and the CAN pressings. They all sound good to these ears.
Be careful with that one. It was demonstrated eons ago in this thread that the US pressing (which many called dull/lifeless) sounds different than the UK pressing (which sounds more open.) I wish I could find the posts, but there were sound samples and everything, it was conclusive. I ordered a copy from Amazon UK based on this info. As far as original vs. the reissue? The original still wins, even over the more open sounding UK pressing. But the latter does not suck
