Can't remember exactly but the first song I can remember hearing about, I think was "Working Class Hero". I was not so good at English in childhood, so it was not something I noticed. But I was a fan of The Beatles and read what I came across.

I'd say the later version is a bit racier.

That's the version I remember hearing on the radio, but now days it's the "son of a gun" version. Is the SOB version even still available since Daniels became a born again?

I had the 45 for Greased Lightning and we used to crank the swear words, but I don't ever recall hearing that on the radio.

Bad Bad Leroy Brown or Tie A Yellow Ribbon probably 1973?

Must have something earlier I heard. We are talking AM radio.

Think you mean "Return of the Red Baron" but yes, the implied "hell" was a pretty big deal for AM radio where you couldn't say the real word yet.

'Bloody' is considered swearing in British colonies (it's got something to do with Jesus' blood) SVTRB has about 10 'bloodies'

This is how Australian radio played the song

Interesting! But is it still a swear when it's meant literally, as it was in this song?

1963...Sinatra's rerecording of "I've Got You Under My Skin" on Reprise where he
changes "when I know so well" to "when I know damn well". Always loved it that way.
Otherwise, The Association's "Reputation" on their "Insight/Out" album (1967) clearly has
the background refrain as "she got f**ked" throughout the entire song. A few people aren't
certain that's what they're singing, but it's clear as a bell to me. (I don't know if it was on a single or not).
    You decide........

Dylan, George Jackson, around 1969, on AM radio (I think CKOC but maybe CHUM)

"He wouldn't take **** from no one"

Got some airplay, but not for long. Maybe someone clued in to the **-ed out word.

Not sure but there are lots of Born Again Christian artists who still play in Devil's din bars and for a bunch of drunks
