I'm looking for albums where the first song is the worst song on the album. I'll start by suggesting Clubland by Elvis Costello's Trust. The album only gets better from there.

I thought you meant first HIT is the worst.

"Clubland" being the worst song means you've got a ****ing fantastic album on your hands.

Can't think of any at the moment - will get back to you.

I won't use the word "worst" when discussing Automatic for the People, but "Drive" is my least favorite song on that album.

REM Radio Song, from Out of Time. Yes, I dislike this more than Shiny Happy People.

Goats Head Soup. Very good album. First song feels anonymous.

"EXP" off Hendrix's "Axis Bold As Love".
It's slight fun but obviously the least impressive track.

Satellite 15... The Final Frontier--Iron Maiden from the album The Final Frontier

Possibly the worst Iron Maiden song of them all.

Opens with Ain't Got You. A clunky dirge that jars with the rest of the record. Surely Tougher Than The Rest (track 2) was a better choice to open with. I endured it on cassette and vinyl but once I got CD, always hit 'Next'.

Billy Joel, An Innocent Man - Can't even remember the last time I played "Easy Money". The rest of the album is superb.

Atrocity Exhibition on Joy Division: Closer. It sounded to me like some out-take from their earlier years, rather than the developed, even “beautiful” sounding band they had become on the rest of Closer.

Might get sacrificed for this, but "Brown Sugar" is the weakest link on Sticky Fingers for me. I love "I Got The Blues", for the record. "Brown Sugar" feels a bit pedestrian to me, Stones by numbers, fine but nothing special. I feel the exact same way about "Custard Pie" on Physical Graffiti, too.

If you want to count greatest hits albums (and an opinion that apparently nobody agrees with), A Foot In The Door by Pink Floyd opens with the worst song I've ever heard in my life then goes onto better songs. You can basically apply the same argument to disc two of The Wall, but unlike the comp, disc two of The Wall is still mostly crap. I still love Pink Floyd, but I can't abide that song.

REM featuring a lot here. I plump for How The West Was Won And Where It Got Us. Easily skip past that one on New Adventures

We've had this thread topic a few times. And this time again for me it's:
"Artificial Energy" from The Notorious Byrd Brothers
It's a lame and extremely dated noisy opener with annoying, ear splitting phased horns and clumsy lyrics about speed. Oh boy.
Most of the rest of the album is almost baroque and ethereal.

The version of BoB I listened to for first decade was a cassette dub my bro made w/out Rainy Day, not sure if it was for timing or him not loving it. Even in CD age I start with Pledging. I don't hate Rainy Day but in my dreamworld its a single-only track, if you wanna hear it on an LP go to the first GH....
