Pretty straightforward query...Who/what is the classical music that is played near the end of "Madge" on Then play on?

This is something I've often pondered...:help:

Me too. The bulk of those 2 songs are edited from a long jam. But the source for that classical bit has not been revealed to my knowledge. I like it...it reminds me of "Expecting To Fly" by Buffalo Springfield.

Anyone? Will this remain one of RocknRoll's few remaining mysteries...

Now that the Deluxe CD has come out, I thought I'd bump this thread.

The intersection of Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac fans and classical music buffs who might have the answer might be so small that this never gets answered. Which would be a shame.

Another question: is it just my familiarity with the second US LP version, or does it seem the the UK (and earlier US) Then Play On have the two "Madge" tracks out of order?

I mean, the longer "Searching" clearly shows the main riff gradually taking form, seemingly revisited in the shorter "Fighting"...

I suspect it may be an excerpt from something like the BBC orchestral music library; there was a boatload of orchestral music that the was recorded for licensing and use in films, TV, radio, commercials, etc., and other rock bands (the Beatles, for one) have used some of this music on their records. The absence of a string arranging credit on the album definitely points to using a pre-existing recording of some sort.

It sounds to me like Grand Canyon Suite.

Also, who the hell is/was Madge?

Madge was a dedicated fan who saw many Mac shows at the time, hence the dedication.

Per Mick Fleetwood, she was a fan who came to all of their early shows and once hitchiked 200 miles to see one of their gigs.

    Yearly Bump.

Can anyone identify that piece of music?

I always assumed it was Christine on the mellotron. I believe it is improvised, not a classical piece at all, though it has that flavor.

Sounds like a real orchestra not mellotron to me.

Yeah..It's definetly not a Mellotron. I think it's taken from a Classical piece or some Library Music...

Sounds to me like a tape of part of the jam reversed and slowed-down.
