For CAKE fans -- RSD boxed set news

I saw on a list for 2013 Record Store Day that CAKE was releasing a box set of their albums. I couldn't find any more details except that a set was being released, so I wrote CAKE via their website. It seems either the list going around is inaccurate or there is another product coming out in April but it seems the November Black Friday RSD is when we will see the good stuff. Here is the response I recieved from CAKE:

We actually dug up all the original master tapes and re-mastered from that source master content.

The actual box set will not be ready until Record Store Day Black Friday [in November]… Eight CAKE albums manufactured on 175g audiophile quality colored vinyl with fully restored artwork for each title and remastered for optimum vinyl sound. Check out the box set cover design below…

this place WAS taking pre-orders for the box but within a few hours sold out. price was $139.99

Wow, $139? That's really not that bad. $17.50 a record. Just about right. If it was Pink Floyd, they'd throw in a holographic bumper sticker and sink plunger with the DSOM logo stenciled on it and charge $250.

I don't know if this is a clue toward the run, but I found this:

$140 is very reasonable, no mention of numbers to be pressed but imagine it would be a pretty small number.

 

That is the first mention of it being black vinyl, everything else I've seen has said colored vinyl.

 

on their facebook page, Record Store Day says of the list of items to be available for RSD that the Cake box 'did not make it, maybe soon'.

Looks like it has been delayed..

"We just received some disappointing news. The Cake vinyl box set has been postponed. We are told that it will be released on Record Store Day in April 2014.

We weren't given a reason, but I assume that this is a production delay. There could have been a printing problem, a missing master tape, or something. It's frustrating to have to wait, but it is better than getting something that is less than perfect (especially considering how much this box costs!)"

Regardless of when this comes out, it is definitely on my most wanted list.

 

Wah? I've been waiting for this since APRIL. Oh, man......

 

I just wish they'd make it a "regular" release. You could stand in line for hours and not get one of the one or two copies the store gets. That would suck.

Yep, we should start a writing campaign as it's silly to postpone its release until another RSD, especially in light of this delay.

 

So I guess this comes out for the April RSD? I know there is some discussion buried in the other RSD thread but thought I would revive this thread and ask who is buying and from where. I am super keen to land a set.
