Well, with all of the doom and gloom we have heard about UMe giving up on the Bing Crosby catalog, it is GREAT news to hear that two "new" releases of Bing on CD are coming 12/8. This gives one hope that the Sinatra catalog is still alive at UMe...
These 2 new releases have been waiting for some time. It is quite doubtful that there will be any more. As for Sinatra still no word on anything else for 2018?
Then this is going to really affect you, Paul… Seal recruited for Frank Sinatra Christmas duets album
If you'd said Micheal Bublé and the Rod Stewart songbooks, I would have agreed with you. You may not enjoy Harry Connick, Jr.'s music, but his first albums of the late 80's early 90's are accomplished works and he is (or at least was then) quite a capable singer and musician. I put those albums on the same level as Diana Krall's. It's all a matter of taste obviously.
None taken. Harry's changed a lot over the years, maybe not for the better, but I still think he's produced a fine handful of albums, all before the age of 25.
Sounds to me like no one is protecting his legacy any more! The stuff the fans want still unavailable and yet "they" release garbage like this ! What did Frank say " just don't put my face on mugs" Almost there Frank, almost there! peace and love✌Dave
(Please don’t shoot the messenger.) Some interesting talk about Frank and standards… Suggested thread for follow-ups… Seal Sets "Standards" With New Album Of Timeless Classics (November 10, 2017)
No idea how successful his interpretations of these songs will be, but I think few male singers alive today would be more capable of doing justice to the material than him (just in terms of sheer vocal quality).
Why???? Just what we need. Another has-been singer trying to make a come-buck by recording songs made famous by Mr. S.
I could see the issue if it were someone more associated with style and choreography than sheer vocal abilty, but to me Seal is an absolute world-class vocalist. Maybe you don't care for his voice and wouldn't care for the interpretation, but there's no reason to behave as if he were somehow unworthy of covering classic songs that Frank also covered, IMHO.
"Tis all about 'The Benjamins", baby. Seal's career has been tanking so he goes the route of Michael Bolton, et al and try and take a ride on Mr. S's grave.
Perhaps I should have said someone of Bieber's generation and type of fame [note: I just re-worded the post, since my intention was truly not to attack Bieber or anyone else]. Peace!
Wasn't Frank considered to have passed his youthful prime and in the midst of a mild career slump at the start of his Capitol days? I wasn't there. but I got the impression that his success in the mid- '50s was somewhat of an unexpected "comeback." And he certainly didn't write any of those songs himself--weren't some of them strongly associated with earlier artists, like Fred Astaire? I guess I just don't understand how the state of an artist's career should have any impact on whether or not they are qualified to cover a classic set of songs.
Mr. S was lower than whale s&*t in the ocean when he turned his career around in 1953-54. HOWEVER.....he continued his comeback by continuing to sing the great popular songs of the day and new ones written strictly for him as his popularity soared higher than it was in the 40's. He did change his style completely. However, what he did NOT do was change his way of singing by COPYING another artist's style and singing their famous tunes and blatantly using the orchestrations written specifically for them to attempt to reclaim some fame from a faded career.
