I had a friend burn these hi-res downloads to DVD-Rs so I could take full advantage of the sound quality. I can now play them on my SACD player. They sound great!
In other bizarre Sinatra news, check out who Amazon lists as the artist on this version of "Nice N Easy". http://smile.amazon.com/Nice-Easy-Vinyl-Frank-Sinatra/dp/B001M4ZDFA/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi_1 Even stranger is that the link actually shows Frank Sinatra in the URL.
All the remaining Capitols for sure. But these are the ones I'm most looking forward to! Songs For Young Lovers Swing Easy Close To You Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim
I was thinking of adding Frank's first two albums to my list but the release they received through the Music For Pleasure label is top notch and I can't see myself buying the download. What I really want it for UMe to press those albums in ORIGINAL 10-inch form!!!!!!!!!
^^^ The major mistake may be the cover image. Johnny Lytle actually did have an LP with a similar title: —> Nice and Easy: The Soulful Vibes of Johnny Lytle
So much for the QA department... I really don't know whether to buy these or not, I'm kind of holding out for a physical version if only in cd format. I want to have a nice glossy package of each album, take out the disc and put it in a player and hit play, I don't want to faff around with the computer or have the best version sitting in a standard do it yourself cd case with just a written name for the album. I could master all the album covers and backs and do the whole set for my own personal use and buy shares in HP or Epsom while I'm at it but I want Universal to do it properly. I'm betting they'll do some box with them all in next year and I can't really afford to buy each one of these at $24 a pop and then buy the box as well. Knowing me I would have to buy the 192 bit version where available , for the same reason I have to buy blu rays Decisions, decisions...
I would be most happy with the 12-inch twofer LP, one album on each side. That's the way I first heard these, and the sound quality was wonderful:
They are going to end up on CD at some point because CD is the bigger market and Universal would not want to miss out on that and I guess that will be next year I've only bought CFWM so far mainly because I wanted to test the water so to speak, on this one record I'm very impressed.
Bob, If we get the 12-inch twofer, that's fine with me but I've never liked the cover art mashup above. Especially when Songs For Young Lovers has the nicer/ better cover. The cover art above is ugly to me.
Swing Easy! has a fun cover but I do agree that Songs For Young Lovers and In The Wee Small Hours with the streets lamps are simply the best.
My favourites: -Swing Easy / Songs for young Lovers - Come Dance / Come Swing - Watertown Do you really think there will be a box set like "Sinatra: The Capitol & Reprise Years" containing ALL albums newly remastered in 2014/15????? UMe released the big black box with the Reprise albums in 2010. So maybe they're just going to release a selection. I' ll buy the "new" Capitol albums (if the SQ has been improved).
Iconic street lamp notwithstanding, there's a reason why they put Swing Easy! on the cover of the twofer: It's the much more visually appealing image of the two. The original cover probably sold a lot of records all by itself. And it didn't even need Sinatra's name.
"Iconic" street lamp???? That word is now the most over-used word in the English language! Sorry, Bob. Nothing personal...I have grown to despise that word.
Universal music group is a mighty big company. I doubt they have all of Frank's capitol and reprise recordings in just one building.
Yes, I know he's supposed to be dancing, but I always thought Swing Easy looked like Sinatra was doing a Frankenstein pose.
