Looks like along with the 4 CD set there will be a single CD of highlights. Amazon currently only has the highlights cover art.

Why, this seems just like the kind of thing I might very well want to exchange some money for. I do believe I'll make a space for it on one of my shelves right away. :)

Me to but I am not crazy about the price. Around $40 would be more reasonable IMHO.

    I don't think I've ever heard a Magic Fingers from 1973.

    Interesting topic.

Do you file Zappa by catalog number/release date or recording date?

I always file by release date.

I’m in. Keep them coming, I’ve barely had time to digest the new Orchestral Favorites.

Looks like this is the one where I start downloading.

"The Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue", "Kung Fu", "Farther O'Blivion", and "Magic Fingers" performed by that band? I'm in.

So, do we start calling the DVD-A Halloween 78?

Release date for me too. So this one would come at the end of Zappa, Frank - right after 'Roxy Performances' - but the new expanded 'Orchestral Favorites' sets gets put in the middle where the old one went.

And I file the albums by the original Mothers (66-69) under M.

What are you so worked up about? I said I'm getting the download version. That's still getting it nowadays. ;)

Besides, I'm not a completist. I don't have the Halloween Costume box or the long MOFO with the beach ball aroma.

I don't have the stupid Halloween box either. I do however own the double vhs version of Baby Snakes.

Ugh this has a mask too? Yuck.

    Maybe Ill just download too.

I give Ahmet credit for getting a lot of stuff released, but when it comes to Halloween, you just know he's going to do stuff like this.

You gotta wonder how many people came to the late 73 concerts just because they wanted to hear Frank's new commercial sound. You show up expecting rock songs like 'Camarillo Brillo' or 'Dirty Love' or 'Dinah-Moe Humm' and the band gives you a whole bunch of jazz-y 'T'Mershi Duween' or 'Farther O'Blivion' instead. Of, sure, there'll be applause between the songs here and there, but there's gotta be at least a few kids in the audience who wished they'd gone to see Black Oak Arkansas instead.

I wasn't around when it happened, obviously, but even though Over-Nite Sensation was a bit of a new sound, and certainly more accessible to newbies (I'm not sure I'd use the word 'commercial' for anything FZ did ), it wasn't exactly a mainstream commercial smash right upon release. Now, by '75 or '76, he'd spent enough time making albums in that vein that perhaps by the time he got to the Zappa In New York shows, he was playing to an audience primarily driven there by his post-72 output.

But if Over-Nite Sensation came out in September '73, I'd guess most of the crowd just over a month later knew what they were getting into. Although at any random gig, you know there's always a few people dragged to the show by a friend (particularly back when tickets were cheap), who spend the whole time going "what the hell IS this?"
