    Hi folks,
I'd like to copy Apple Lossless files from iTunes, re-tag them, and re-import them into iTunes (I'd like to make my own "complilation albums" and have them show up as such, not as playlists). Are there any good, simple Mac apps for tagging Apple Lossless files. free is best!
    Thanks to all...

Can't this be done fairly easily in iTunes?

ITunes is already the easiest, free way to tag just about any audio file.

Yes, but what I want to do is to tag duplicate files, without changing the original tags. In other words, create a playlist, drag it out of iTunes, retag the files, and re-import them as my own compilation album.

That wasn't clear from your first post.

There is still a way to do it in iTunes. :--

    1) First, set your import mode (presumably currently ALAC) to something lossless other than ALAC, say AIFF
    2) Then select the playlist, right click and create AIFF versions of the files.
    3) Select the AIFF files and change the metadata as you wish to create your compilation album.
    4) Set the import mode back to ALAC
    5) Select the AIFF files, right click and create ALAC versions of your new compilation album.
    6) Delete the AIFF files.
