I read on a recent thread that a respected member of the Forum (can’t remember who at this point) said that the 2000 remaster of “From Elvis in Memphis” (with bonus tracks) CD (“compilation produced” by the highly regarded Ernst Mikael Jorgensen [along with Roger Semon]) sounds like poop.

Is this correct, or did he misstate?

I thought that most / all of the Ernst Mikael Jorgensen masterings are considered top notch?

Well, it doesn't exactly sound like poop, but Steve or Vic Anesini would have done a better job of mastering (IMO).

It sounds somewhere between poop and so so.

Haven't heard the "From Elvis in Memphis" remaster but you might as well get the 2-CD "Suspicous Minds" comp as it has all of the Elvis Memphis 1969 masters. The "From Elvis In Memphis" album is presented in its original running order on disc 1.

Do you know who mastered it?

No specific mention of who mastered the CD. The CD credits only Ernst Mikael Jorgennsen and Roger Simon as being the compilation producers.

The mastering is so bad on this one that they were too embarrassed to say who did it!;)

(In reality, the mastering on this is crud.)

I don't think the Suspicious Minds set sounds that bad, but that's just me. Dennis Ferrante and Lene Reidel are credited as "Digitial Engineers".

    :wtf:

I've heard MUCH worse mastering than that found on "Suspicious Minds - The Memphis 1969 Anthology".

IMHO "Suspicious Minds - The Memphis 1969 Anthology", sounds just fine.

Sorry for being unclear -- I meant the "From Elvis in Memphis" 2000 CD.

I bought the 2000 remaster and was very disappointed in the sound.

Although the bonus tracks were nice, it's in my to sell or trade pile. :shake:

It must be worse than Bob Norberg's work.

I see - I've not heard that one. From what you say I guess I should keep it that way :D

    Close but not quite.

Norberg, Astley and Mew are still the kings of bad mastering.

How does the 2 disc set compare with the Japanese 24-bit mini LP?

  17. It's a shame CD versions of this material are ok at best. This is my favorite Elvis album, and I wish it would receive a nice sounding release. Maybe FTD will get around to this one someday. Or maybe even Steve :righton: I can dream, right?

Right now, I'm tempted to get the 180g vinyl edition.

All the late-1990's reissues sound like crap, including From Elvis In Memphis. The Legacy Edition is the best CD version available.

Sometime in April. FTD rarely, if ever, has a firm release date.

I've never bought an FTD release before, but From Elvis In Memphis is my favorite Presley album. I may have to get this one.
