Funny cover art error with iTunes

So I recently hit the Get Album Artwork command, and wow did I get a weird one the very next day.

Playing The Shape I'm In off of The Band's Greatest Hits (sorry, I guess I didn't own Stage Fright back 5 years ago when I uploaded it), instead of seeing:





I instead saw:





I had no idea who they were, sorry I'm sure there are some Dutch fans on the forum.


Anyone else ever see a weird cover art error like that?

I've had this before, some pretty strange ones but can't remember them off the top of my head!

 

Yeah... I think there's a funny one that used to show up for Electric Ladyland.. I can't remember what it was, but it was some guy who looked like Wavy Gravy and I think the album was called Electric Larryland.

 

This has happened to me on a number of occasions. Kind of irritating, especially when you can see that the iTunes version has the correct art and your files are labelled exactly the same.

 

Garth Hudson was always funky. It just depends on the definition of funky.

 

I've never trusted automatic cover art retrievers... rather google the itunes page and manually grab the art (a slight modification on a cover pic's url can give you the higher resolution version)

 

Not album cover art but check out what iTunes gave me for Cream as the artist photo.

 

One of the reasons why I don't use the Artists pane anymore. But the worst is having a 1970 album by CSNY and the attached artists picture being a photo taken 40 years later – smiling, grey-haired gentlemen dressed like retirement home tenants. Sorry but it totally ruins it for me.

 

Sometimes it happens.

 

It is a very common practice everytime you rip a CD on iTunes.
I had to replace dozens of cover albums due the mistakes on my recent iPod.

One of what still in list is the Spencer Davis Group, I have a nice set of two albums with the best of the band, but cover differs a lot of the original:

But what it was really funny was the Jumbo, this is an italian progressive band, the same title album had a strange cover of a mexican band, and not only that, this band is from the city I am living at this moment: Monterrey; funny enough?

I would, but I have over 15,000 songs. That would take a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time. But for some circumstances like this, I will!

I do it as I add them to my library, as to avoid problems like that in the future

To get the pics I go to the album's iTunes page, then copy the url of the cover. At the end if shows something like this:
blahblahblah.100x100-75.jpg
Those dimensions at the end, change them into 600x600, and it shows the cover in the resolution iTunes downloads it And it can also be used for 1200x1200

Then just embed it through iTunes or a program like Puddletag

Obvious but amusing: Anything from Peter Gabriel's first three albums seems to bring up any one of the covers, often as not the wrong one.

 

It's almost as funny that they used that incredibly bad picture of CSNY with Graham Nash in a wheelchair.

 

Amazon.com occasionally has some funny album cover mixups on their CD listings. iHeartRadio frequently mixes them up, such as:

 

I use XMBC for my music library with a plugin that retrieves artists' info. I onced set it to grab missing album arts and for several albums it downloaded the title track's single cover

 

i still can't figure out what happened,
but at some point itunes arbitrarily pasted this image over 40% of my 8000+ albums.
it took me almost a year to fix it.

 

I was going to post this as an example if it wasn't the OP. This used to frustrate me for years but now I'm used to it. I can't hear Rag Mama Rag or I Ain't Got No Home without visualizing these silhouettes dancing.
