Galt MacDermot, Composer of Hair, Dead at 89

I am a man who proudly loves musicals, and Hair is my favorite. That show's composer, Galt MacDermot has died. His music from the hippie era seems as every bit as relevant, authentic and in-tune with that time as anything performed at Woodstock. Frankly, if my choices were Foxey Lady, Sunshine of your Love, White Rabbit, Riders on the Storm or Aquarius, I would always and forever choose to listen to Aquarius. MacDermot had an exceptional understanding of harmony, and his chord choices were unexpected and often thrilling. His melodies were remarkable too. Thanks for the music Galt. Well done.

Oh, that's too bad.

I just listened to the cd release of the original Broadway cast recording awhile back.
It's extended, includes material that was left off the original LP release.
I love that music, everything about it.
The compositions are wonderful, the singing is excellent and the band is awesome.
To me, not dated at all. Love everything about Hair!

Just saw a Hebrew version of Hair on LP and thought that collecting Hair cast recordings and related albums(off Broadway,OBC,world wide casts,studio casts,all instrumental,moog,budget,etc.) could be a sizable task.

 

My friend did just that.

 

I've been on the task for the last 15 years!
