To the OP, you are severely wasting your time by listening to this music without a good stereo. No pc or apple product will give to the full bass slam as FLY goes into B way Melody, the fantastic In the Cage. The passion of PG's voice in Back in NYC.

You are right, of course. the only purpose of a poll like this is to stimulate discussion.

I get that but the Lamb is a story/concept unlike their other albums. It’s akin to choosing the best chapter from a novel to my mind.

Individually some of the songs are clearly stronger than others but they are all part of the narrative.

Others clearly take a different view which is totally fine and fair as well.

I like the album but I don't really care about the narrative so I have no problem in picking standout tracks.

The 5.1 surround sound dvd version with the original concert slides is a great way to ‘listen’ to this album in full.

    In the Rapids

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is my favorite album of all time. Everything on the album fits in terms of music, and though the story has been criticized for not making an awful lot of sense, it is therefore interpretation-friendly, and as deep as the music is, the same depth can be achieved with the lyrics. Of all the pieces of music on the album, Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats and The Colony of Slippermen are my favorites. The former goes into tranquil territory with beautiful Mellotron fills, the feeling of being alone in the forest at dawn just as the fog is lifting. The latter showcases everything great about the group; theatrical vocal delivery, complicated yet rhythmic and melodic music and a sublime performance that takes you all sorts of places in the span of eight minutes.

The lyrics to Anyway, coupled with the lovely rustic piano melody stands as some of the most beautiful lyrics of all time in my book.

All in all it is hard for me to pick favorites for this album. I enjoy it all, but it peaks on disc 2. At this point in time, even though the recording of this album was fraught with tension and hardship, Genesis were firing on all cylinders here. Absolutely watertight, even after all these years.

I love The Lamb. Funny, I’m not big on the Carpet Crawlers. I know I’m in the small minority. As an aside, I own the SACD. Bought it fr CD Japan years ago for a billion yen/ maybe $45.

‘Anyway’ for me. One of the very best Genesis songs. The lyrics and that rolling piano are so good...

Disregard this tip! Lol, I kid, but the first time I heard this album I was stoned off my ass, and it was an amazing experience. I've loved it ever since

I clicked them all, I always listen to the whole thing in one sitting. This is one of my favorite albums of all time.

And OP, you're doing this wrong man. Put the thread on hold and give it serious listen all the way through later tonight while doing nothing else, and report back tomorrow

It’s easier to say what I didn’t pick, which are the tracks I’ll sometimes skip:
The Waiting Room: It gets too crazy while I’m driving.
Chamber of 32 Doors: 32 bores
Silent Sorrow: Sounds like what it is; music to waffle around on while Peter changes costumes.
    Ravine: see above
The Light Dies: Dull and listless.
In the Rapids: Probably the most unremarkable album track released by the classic 5 man Genesis.

It always amazed me how Gabriel captured the feeling of living in NYC. When you listen to the album you get the feeling of being there, smelling the streets, hearing the noises.
    Great job.

Not an Album where I listen to Individual Songs as needs to be taken in as a whole-IMO

However, I made 1 Vote for 'Back in N.Y.C.', as if it is good enough for Jeff Buckley(to cover), then it is good enough for me.

Hairless Heart and Silent Sorrow are some of Steve AND Tony's best short songs ever.

The rest, usual suspects - favorite is title track.
