Wake me up before I go-go. Truer words were never spoken. R.I.P. Huge talent.

Horrible news for a horrible year. What a talent. This is one of those cases where I can't help but wish he had been a bit more prolific--a few more LPs to enjoy would've been nice...

    Oh, well...

Currently watching this weeks Top of the Pops from 1982 on BBC4 and Wham! are on, not their first appearance on the show but their first to be repeated. Gutted!

Older is one of those albums that I hold very, very close to my heart. Beautiful. We resisted going to see his last tour, a bit too expensive but I know that if he'd announced another tour I would spring for 2 tickets.

2 in 2 days, Rick Parfitt and George, both huge in my record collection and in my heart. R.I.P.

I was jealous in 1982 cos he was a cool, confident, talented partygoer just 3 years older but I was a shy introverted messed-up teenager. Then when each of his brilliant solo albums came out it marked a major (to me at the time) relationship breakdown. Have bought everything over the years you know? Brilliant, sexy, songwriter extraordinaire! 53 is too young George. We looked forward to Deluxe LWP next year but where is the album of Stevie Wonder covers? Now it doesn't matter. What a man! WHO ELSE could ever turn a toilet-trading incident into a brilliant, brilliant song and video 'Outside'. You are a huge loss to music and brilliance in general... [IMG]

Sad. All I've seem to have done in 2016 is mourn and reflect.

I don't know about 'better' but I am certain Freddy would have given him a standing ovation anytime.....

  14. Wow. I'm in shock. Recently listened to him because of being inspired by "Keanu"

After having some time to reflect on this, I've realized that the '80's musical landscape is now gone in total. Where to now?

There will be plenty more next year and the year after etc, etc.

The more people we make famous the more there are to die. (Good lyric perhaps?)

What's sad is that the current music industry may never allow people as talented as George to rise to prominence in the same way again.

  23. Shocked and sad. Though not surprised, anyone notice a pattern forming this year? Not a big part of my listening but an undeniable talent and a nice guy it would seem. RIP.
