I could not agree more; this is a really lovely early take, and it is definitely one of my favourite tracks from the Anthology albums.

I don't think that demo is an appropriate term here. This is a backing track take with a scratch vocal.

This is pretty decent actually. Now imagine this with the Beatles playing and singing. This converted me to this side of the argument. Haha

It's definitely on the same level as You Like Me Too Much.

    SPOILER ALERT

The band breaks up at the end of it. :p

Not coincidentally, George deliberately wrote "All Things Must Pass" with The Band in mind. You can hear more of this influence in the rough Beatles versions and in the booted "stripped" solo band versions. Once it got a layer of Spector production laid on top of it, it sounded more like a "George Harrison" song.
Sure, later in the '70s, but in 1969 they were really the model of a new way to run a band -- all vocalists, all multi-instrumentalists, all writers. Pretty amazing, then or now.

I didn't put it together at the time, but in their last photo session they all (with the possible exception of John with his jumpsuit) kind of look like they are aspiring to be in the Band.

So I'm even more off topic than I thought:) I'm totally nontechnical when it comes to music and I wasn't absolutely sure that the first section qualified as a demo but I knew someone would set me straight. But as I said.....any opportunity to plug one of my favorite musical moments:love:

If your barista looks and dresses anything like George or John look in the picture I posted, you're going to a much cooler place for a random cup of coffee than I do. :p

I like "You Know What To Do," and this video perfectly captures how the song could have sounded (at its worst) had the Beatles tackled it with some seriousness.

Yes, or there were other options of course. Lose the country rock/Gretsch influence, straighten out the rhythm a bit to more of a rock feel, have Ringo play a heavier staggered pattern more like "Ticket To Ride" and Paul singing along with George in the verse in places using his "Drive My Car"/"She's a Woman" voice and John singing along in the "Just Call On Me when your lonely chorus" and "the Boys" add some Beatles la-la-la's behind it and they're going to the toppermost of the poppermost, I tell ya, the TOP ! :p

I'd prefer it with Tibetan Monkees chanting from the mountain top :)

    And a vibra slap :)

Monkees ? There was also a Monkees band in Tibet ? Fascinating !

That's a (vibra) slap in the face of the US Monkees . :D

Let's see if we can work on raising John and George from the dead, or get Rod Taylor to let us borrow his time machine and travel back and get "The Boys" to work on the song.:D

Oh, the songs I would have them do. "OK boys, we're going to have you record every single Buddy Holly song, every Arthur Alexander song, every Everly Brothers song......." :D

Edit: Oh yeah, and all the songs they gave away. I'd love to hear "A World Without Love" or "Bad To Me" by The Beatles.
