I'm glad they changed it. I love all the characters.

Aww C'mon, Vidiot. Don't you appreciate how she transformed that quaint little coutryish song into a full blown Broadway show tune?

I was being absent minded. The Cosby show has the most variations. Duh!

The shock for me is remembering that Alice went for nine seasons! Can you imagine the 202-episode boxed set?:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Wish they had at least gotten the same group the sing the new version. The season 2 version just doesn't have the "it" factor to me. The original is much more islandy and just seems to suit the program more.

She seems like a better Ginger than a MaryAnn, but the Daisy Duke shorts and peasant blouse on Raquel would have been a sight to behold.

The most annoying thing related to the theme song..........at least whoever syndicated the show in the New York area for daytime TV........for the closing version of the theme, they edited out "each week" thinking that people would be dumb enough not to tune back in tomorrow.

So join us here (gap) my friends, you're sure to get a smile.

Heh, no matter how scientifically inaccurate One Million Years B.C. is (and it really, really is), I still enjoy watching it, for some reason. ;)

I always wondered why the Professor and Mary Ann weren't mentioned in season one.

Amazing. I haven't seen that show in 30 years and ten seconds of the video and the theme comes totally back to me.

It's easily one of the catchiest themes ever.

Linda Lavin's vocal theatrics might be among the worst in the history of television, and that's saying a lot.

OK, so I read this and was like, "Surely, he must be exaggerating. She at least sang it normally the first time." But then I went back and listened to each of the first six seasons' themes, and since I'm in the living room and didn't feel like using headphones, I listened to them at a volume that made the vocals the only easily audible thing, and...you're right. From the get go, she was really oversinging that song. Season two's theme! The horror! I still think it's a great melody, though. Much more suited for the original country/blues arrangements, though, than the later jazz arrangements.

If I remember correctly Alice was similar to Lucy Ricardo, in that she wanted to get into show business. I vaguely remember plots that involved that subject.

Alice is one of the few shows that I have no desire to revisit, even though I loyally watched the last four or five seasons as they were broadcast.

I was tempted to buy the complete Gillian's Island at Costco this weekend. $30!

I know your post is over a year old at this point, but if you didn't pick up the complete series of "Gilligan's Island" at Costco (the price you quoted being a very good one), Walmart has the complete series for roughly the same price, maybe a little closer to $35.00, but in the same ballpark...
