  1. They excel live. Here's a pro shot clip from their 3hr show at Whelans in Dublin this summer.

-edit- the real star of the band is Colm on the violin.

I have a few of his bootlegs and he tells a story that he had a couple of Van tunes in the movie Once but had forgot to ask Van for permission to use them. So his manager calls Vans manager who says, yeah, Van knows of Glen but you can't use his songs. Glen had to pull the songs. Thought that was pretty cratchety of old Van.

  3. Pretty typical, if the stories are to be believed, of that old goat.

He was a good friend of Jason Molina and released a tribute EP this month, It Was Triumph We Once Proposed, backed by much of the Songs:Ohia band. Really nice spot on Letterman a couple weeks ago, very well done ...

I'm a huge fan of Glen's. ONCE is a favorite of course but really dig all of his stuff. Have seen him live a few times - most recently this past February. An amazing live performer. And a heck of a great guy. One of the nicest cats in the business.

Saw The Frames live maybe 12 years ago or so now and they are an amazingly powerful act live. Fitzcarraldo and Finally being two of the greatest vocal performances I've heard from anyone. Never been a huge fan and don't really own much of their music, but my goodness do they put on a show.

Just watched Once on Saturday and was wondering why I'd never heard fo him before. Thoroughly enjoyed the music and the film though it's not the sort of thing I would normall listen to.

My S.O. and I don't listen to a lot of music together
    But when we do
Glen Hansard has as good a chance as any
    Of being in that rotation

Yea, big fans of his music and THE movie

I heard the buzz and enjoyed the Oscar's performance, the talent was obvious from the start, a while later I rented Once, I wasn't expecting much but was bowled over by the whole thing.
I have checked out the Frames a few times but never pulled the trigger, then recently I saw Fitzcarraldo was being re-released on LP (I believe?) so took a listen and, wow, I didn't need any more convincing. I was able to get the CD used for pennies from Amazon, great sound, great production and a powerful performance that sounds like rolling thunder off in the distance, very impressed.
The question is, if I like Fitzcarraldo so much, what should I buy next?
    All the best, Trevor.
P.S. I keep telling my wife about Once, she's like "yeh, yeh" but I'll have to rent it again, she'd luv the love story. What a talented guy.
