“We were recording at Mick [Jagger]’s house, Stargroves near Newbury, and I’m outside in the studio truck, playing in the synthesiser and hearing them locked relentlessly on the beat right through the song. I was blown away. I knew it was a marker in the evolution of popular music.”

So what is your favorite record this legendary gentleman worked on?

I like his work with The Faces, particularly A Nod Is As Good As A Wink. Stay With Me is a classic.

Too many greats to pick a favorite, but it was a nice surprise to see a photo from the White Mansions sessions in that article. A great album that's, dare I say it, "under-rated"!

I guess Who's Next is, indeed, my favorite. It's an album that has been largely discussed here already, so I'm not going to add anything else.

Might be time for a new thread: "Most underrated album about mansions?"

I would have to agree with him. Whenever I hear the complete Who's Next album, with that as the finale just leaves me breathless. There are very few albums that can finish like that, at least leave me with that feeling.

What's amazing is it's only the LP version of the song that does it to me. The single edit one doesn't have the same impact to me.

The first time I became aware of Mr. Johns's work as an engineer was through Led Zeppelin's first album. I was the first freakin' CD I ever bought. Still holds a soft spot for me for that reason.

Not to be pedantic - but his name is Glyn Johns, not jones.

Ah, but Stargroves - what was it about that place that induced such classic rock recordings???

Show Some Emotion -- Joan Armatrading

Those are two of my favorites at opposite ends of the spectrum. In general the man did great work, and I see his name on lots of my favorite albums.

 I only own her self-titled album, and damn, that's a really great sounding CD. I need to check out more of her stuff.

Got an email that said he will be at the R&RHOF Library on Nov. 15 talking about his book. I saw him last year when he was interviewed at the Rock Hall and it was a very interesting evening.....can't wait for this too!
