RIP Chuck, I spent many a half hour watching The Gong Show and his other creations when I was a kid.

In the summer of 1976, while studying for the bar exam, I learned that I had to have three wisdom teeth extracted. I had just moved to the city where the law firm I joined was located, so a friend from law school also living there was kind enough to drive me home from the procedure, which was as delightful as preparing for the bar. He left me, doped up from the general, on the couch and, to entertain me when I returned to Planet Earth, turned the television on. When I slowly came to, alone in my town house, the just-new Gong Show was on. I had never seen it before and, as my mind slowly returned to focus from my dental paradise, I was fairly certain that whatever that dentist had given me, like the one who had dosed John and George back in the 60s, it had caused me to lose my mind and I could never come back. Fortunately, I crawled back from the wreckage to apparent sanity and have enjoyed the Show ever since.
Thanks, Chuck, and RIP. That was really cool.

OMG! At work on Monday, I actually joked about the former Gong Show host dying over the weekend.

    RIP, Chuck Barris.

  11. First thing I wondered was: did he really die...or is this just a cover story as he goes deep undercover for one last assignment?

Once when I was nine my sister and I were on a flight and the guy next to us said Chuck Berry was on the flight and that I should go ask for his autograph. I was to shy to ask the Gong Show host for his autograph.

Someone needs to check on Chuck Norris.

The other day I had posted to a different thread about the time that my best friend and I auditioned to be on The Gong Show. We didn't pass the audition (we forgot our sheet music) but we did get to meet Chuck Barris. He walked into the audition room with two statuesque babes, one on each arm. I was about 15 at the time needless to say my jaw dropped, and I realized what I wanted to be when I grew up!

Rest well Chuckie Baby, and thanks for all the laughs!

As a toddler I stood in front of the TV dancing with Gene Gene The Dancing Machine and cuting eye-holes out of all my mother's paper bags so I could be the unknown comic. I'm glad "Gong Show The Movie" finally got a home video release this year. He gave us so much entertainment. Maybe he's not really dead, he's on a top-secret mission somewhere....
