Has anyone ordered this? Which pressing is it? It's listed as a "33rpm import", and "Rhino/WEA UK", but the track listings include a bunch of alternate takes. Wondering if it's the Kevin Gray remaster from a few years back?
who knows... the amazon listing seems way screwy. i can't match this one to any releases on discogs or elsewhere.
FWIW, the vinyl of Monkees'Good Times' finally arrived today. It was sealed, perfect condition. Haven't looked since, but it was nine bucks shipped thru warehouse deals.
This is the Kevin gray version. JOHN COLTRANE - GIANT STEPS (DELUXE) [Vinyl] - Amazon.com Music I had an amazon rep confirm the UPC and ordered it in march The autorip included the bonus tracks which was nice
^It sure can be. I try tracking down the UPC code of whatever it is I want then use that to search & verify which version Amazon is selling. It's not fool proof but 9 times out of 10 it works.
And both put out by Rhino? At least listed as such. I wonder if they are both the same mastering, just two different listings? Or did Rhino really put out two different masterings? That makes no sense. JFC, this is such a confusing hobby.. Yes, that seems to be the best approach, wherever possible. Also gives some leverage if you need to return something when they send a copy with a different UPC.
It's definitely confusing as hell. When I researched it, there were three listings in discogs I thought it could be A 2013/2014 Europe reissue not mastered by gray - details of the $13 listing say WEA/UK, and camelcamelcamel doesn't have history til 2013 John Coltrane - Giant Steps A 2005 issue not mastered by Gray John Coltrane - Giant Steps Or the Kevin gray which had its own barcode and hype sticker John Coltrane - Giant Steps So it's possible the $13 listing is the kevin gray, but no guarantees. If you have prime and don't mind a return, it may be worth a try to save $10.
Re: JOHN COLTRANE - Giant Steps [Vinyl] - Amazon.com Music The track listing and product details date are wrong. This is the listing at Amazon UK: » Giant Steps [VINYL]: Amazon.co.uk: Music It's this one, according to the UPC/EAN barcode: See also: » Giant Steps [Vinyl] at Barcode Robot
Marvin Gaye - Collected $21.99 Limited double 180 gram blue vinyl LP pressing in gatefold jacket MARVIN GAYE - Collected - Amazon.com Music
I only had time to listen to side 1. And this is the first time I've ever heard this album. But as with most Coltrane, great all-around musicianship. The pressing quality is very good. Very flat with minimal pops and clicks. I would 'guess' it's around 160g in weight. Could be a little less. Mastering is decent. I didn't crank it up very loud but nothing stood out (shrill highs or lack of lows, etc). The mix is definitely spread. Drums in the right channel, pianos and sax in the left. Embarrassingly, I don't remember where the bass was. If I were to ever re-buy this album, I'd get the mono mix. But it was worth $6 for sure (I had a few cash-back points left on my Discover Card).
How good is this box set release? Ella and Louis Complete Studio Master Takes 10.99. This is a box set, so I ordered it to ship once it's back in stock.

Looks like its one of those EU loophole pressings, not an official release. That isn't a comment on quality - I haven't heard it -, its just that there's no Verve logo present on any of those images, and looking at the bar code number it appears that it is a Spanish import with no label info available.
