I just picked this one up... what a great deal at$42 and free shipping. Highly recommended. This is my favorite compilation of music from Africa... just great songs throughout. I haven't heard the vinyl before, but I'm stoked to give it a listen. Soundway does a great job, and the other vinyl I have from those guys has been excellent quality. I've heard the packaging on this one is awesome, too.

I have Nigeria Special Vol. 2 on vinyl. It is great. I have the Nigeria Special and Ghana Special series on CD. I missed out on Nigeria Special Vol. 1 on vinyl, it seems to be OOP.I seem to recall that the vinyl versions sometimes include extra tracks not on the CDs.

I would bet that these vinyl sets will not stay in print for that long.

 

I would add that the cheapest price for this set on Amazon Marketplace right now is $57 shipped..

My confirmation says shipping 4/10-4/18.

 

Mine says Estimated arrival date: April 3 - April 11. My experience with these types of responses from online sellers is that they don't have the item in stock, and either haven't gotten the memo or don't believe the memo that it is no longer in print or available.

Again, I'd love to be wrong about this, but I am not optimistic. We shall see!

 

Well, Bestbuy has already charged my credit card!! So it had better be shipped! LOL.

 

Do you get into any of the Mulatu Astatke stuff? That's my favorite African stuff, but it is a polyglot of all kinds of styles since he was in the States in the late 60s and early 70s (I may not have the dates precisely correct).

It occurred to me to check Soundway's website and it looks like this title is listed there as still available on vinyl. That has reduced my skepticism quite a bit about eventually actually getting this via Best Buy.

We haven't had great vinyl deals on Best Buy for a while ...

 

I keep checking.

On occasion I've seen them beat Amazon and B&N prices on certain titles I want, but not like we saw early last year.

 

It's been about a year since those deals. Maybe with RSD around the corner they may do something.
