Ugh. Hopefully the Panny I bought earlier this year will serve me for a long time to come!

  3. Feel the same. Bought a Panny just before last Christmas when the handwriting on the wall first showed up.

Hoping that by the time it dies, something better than the current crop of LCD's is out. 4K shows promise, but still not really a unified system with a delivery plan. Maybe in a few years, but you know it will be 8K/16K/whatever by the time I need to replace my ZT.

This isn't a big deal. Newer technology will rise to the challenge.

So very sad. I'm in love with my 2012 Panny plasma, and hope something comparable is available when it goes belly-up.

Still have my Pioneer Kuro Elite. I don't watch much tv, and if I could just convince my daughter of the same, it should last for years. Actually, I still have a Technics tube HDTV in the basement, but without a TIVO hookup, it never gets watched.

This is no great shakes at all. Plasma technology is going out because it's prone to failure. The new tech is robust and handles the HD programming just fine. And cheaper too.

Knowing the end was near, I bought my 43" Samsung with all alacrity.

Why is everyone so butt-hurt over the loss of Plasma? That's old tech

not prone to fail and it may be old tech but the picture tells the story. I missed getting another Panny so just got a 51" Samsung 8500 series. Happy Camper and it is still breaking in.

Those of us who desire the absolute best flat panel picture quality love plasma.

I see what you did there, Vinyl Addict.

Then become obsolete in 2 years, forcing us to buy newer, better technology.

Look, there are still people buying or otherwise renting DVDs. Those who don't care about the home theater experience aren't going to be forced to buy anything. I suppose most people decide to buy a new TV when their old one stops working. And those folks will have to go pretty far out of their way to spend more on something worse every 7-12 years.
