I think you are a month off - his birthday is November 17. If it was today, we'd be hearing all about it .... although it might have be overshadowed by first day of legalized pot!

No worries. And thanks for the reminder .... he is truly, truly great and his birthday is worthy of a month-long listening fest in advance!

Deserves and award for fitting into a song the Indian name for Lake Superior, "Gitchee Gumee"

Weird that he shares the same initials as Geddy Lee and Greg Lake

Make that two awards, since he also sings a song about Lake Couchiching, which is an Ojibwe term .... and he repeats the name about 10 times in the chorus.

Love his music, the 70's vibe wouldn't be the same without him. Happy birthday Gord!

So I guess a cover of "When I'm 64" is too much to hope for?

Outstanding artist whose work possesses equal measures of charm and gravitas!

Laurie Anderson and Neil Diamond also mentioned it (although Neil's was more of a nonsense song).

Love the "Sundown" lp. The "Gord's Gold" double released in the mid seventies made me a big fan. There is a Canadian reissue of "Sit Down Young Stranger" that I just had to try. I don't know any mastering ,or cutting details, but curiosity got me on that one. Should be here soon. Could probably find an original "If You Could Read My Mind" for less than half the price, but what the hey.

Truly one of the great songwriters.

It's mind-boggling how few sub-par songs he's released over a very long career.

Gordon will be performing in his hometown of Orillia on his 80th, in the Opera House/Gordon Lightfoot Auditorium..A benefit show with proceeds going to the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital and the Opera House. It is also the annual "LIGHTFOOT DAYS" weekend there. The rest of his 2018 tour is @ www.lightfoot.ca I've got my 3 concert dates set aside - Oshawa, Orillia and Peterborough, Ontario. The legend lives on...

My wife and I made it to the 1999 Opera House dedication...I actually saw Gordon unloading some gear in the afternoon and thought of offering to help or say hi, but decided not to bug him. He had a somewhat serious look on his face and had his hair comb from the side.
My fave Lightfoot concert was in 1989 when Lightfoot was ALL BY HIMSELF at the Heritage in Saginaw.

If you talk to him...ask him to release more digital tracks (or a digital EP). I'm sure there's stuff that didn't make Songbook.
