Lovely song. I imagine Jerry sittin by the piano with Hunter's lyrics and just trying out different melodies. The song came on via shuffle while I was driving through the endless prairie of northeast Colorado and into Nebraska, going to the Black Hills of South Dakota. I was very moved for some reason. That beautiful melody blending with Jerry and Donna's vocals just got to me
So I was poking through one of my favorite record shops in Ann Arbor last week and was just about to check out with a healthy pile of new to me discs (sidenote: people are just dumping absolutely killer collections left and right these days, it's a good time to be searching for used CDs), when I spotted a really nice copy of this CD box behind the counter: I've been wanting this for years. I'm not sure I got the most exciting deal for it, but it appears to have been barely played and was in my hands for $40-60 less than what it currently appears to be going for on eBay or Discogs. So color me very happy.
All Good Things is great set -- I bought when it was released. At the time, I only had live Garcia band releases -- so much of it was all new to me.
I picked up the box a couple of months ago for just over £60. Well worth the money especially the disc that’s exclusive to the box
The Tangled Up In Blue off the new GarciaLive Vol 10 is one of the fastest I've heard. Almost too fast.
Yeah, I think Jerry was just having so much FUN that week that some of the songs are just ever so slightly more upbeat, or faster if you will, than usual. There is definitely a sweet spot in terms of BPM for a song like that one. I didn't notice it sounding fast but I will listen for that on my next pass.
Looking forward to the upcoming Jerry box set-I think release date is 5/11. I have studiously avoided listening to the teasers.
It can be from a few years later I guess. But I think it's Keith playing the piano. Doea anyone have a more precise guestimate?
Reflections outtake 1976 is the commonly held belief This is a rare instance, for me, where I think the song sounded much better in later years. I don't think Jerry really got the singing down until '95, when the song was near perfect. Amazing to have the 70's take, though.
The CD case has “1974,1976,1982 & 2004” on it (2004 being the release date of All Good Things and All Good Things Redux).
I've been listening to about 100 versions of this tune: Señor, señor I can see that painted wagon Smell the tail of the dragon Can't stand the suspense anymore Can you tell me who to contact here, señor?
For me it hadn't before yesterday. 1000 is an overstatement (duh) but I listened to a few Garcia band versions, several from Dylan (one from the RTR the best one, Garcia sitting in with Dylan in 1980, Willie Nelson, even a couple of no-name covers on youtube. I'm back at the well now, learned the chords for it and everything. I guess it just clicked big time.

That is the one. There seem to be a whole lot of bluegrass covers of it, but I can't find a single one with nice bluegrass harmony vocals. I think it would sound good like that.
Listening to Garcia Live 10 again. Such a great release for both sound and performance. Hopefully the next volume will be announced soon. Fortunately it seems they aren’t concerned about clashes with Dead releases
