I couldn't take it anymore - I called Acoustic Sounds Tuesday and ordered the 2 Creedence SACD's. They came today and I couldn't get the Dynaco's EL-34's glowing fast enough. Verrrrrrrrrrrrry different sounding albums - Cosmo's Factory has a transistory studio sound, but the highs are more natural sounding (cymbals have some airiness and shimmer). Willie t-h-r-o-b-s big time - Fortunate Son's bass notes just start vibrating and growling and don't have that on-off bass common to cd's (where the bass notes seem to never hang) - not so with that SCAD layer. Drums have a nice, woody sounding thump. I haven't played the cd layer yet, but I have the DCC's so I'm not worried about it. If you're on the fence about an SACD player, find one of those cheap Sony DVD players that comes with SACD decoding built in - you will love those CCR discs. Thanx Steve - now about Chronicle making that SACD leap...

Willie on DCC was fairly incredible. It still impresses me, as I'm waiting to bite on those two discs very soon!

Sckott, pick up the phone and get 'em quick - they kick ass! Sell some plasma, skip lunch, just get 'em quick (did I mention get them quick)?

I will. I also want to get a few of the 45RPMs too, and break down and buy the SD "BOB" as well.

*&^%$ holiday season. Too damn much to buy. Grumble.

It's not the records that are expensive, it's life in general. :p

Can you compare it with the DCC discs?

I haven't been able to crank it way up on my speakers (the missus is going to see Jerry Seinfeld tomorrow night so I can crank 'em way up then). I did some comparing with my Grado headphones on - the SACD's have more action in the stuff that makes music come alive - echo hangs on and doesn't peter out like cd's seem to do (the slapback on Fogerty's voice is a good test here), the bass notes have more groove in them, and Fogerty's voice comes through with a hint more clarity; even the hum that starts out Willie and the Poor Boys sounds more like amp hum. This may sound odd, but I relaxed more and enjoyed the rhythm of the music more with the SACD playing (and I'm comparing the SACD's to the DCC golds). I'll keep my DCC's, but I'll play the Acoustic Sounds versions for that tasty SACD layer...

Thanks Indy Mike I've been waiting for this one.;)
