How can Radiohead's "Hail to the thief" not be nominated for album of the year? It's up for the best "alternative" album, but they got the shaft for album of the year.

These are the nominees for album of the year:

    Missy Elliott: Under Construction

    Fallen: Evanescence

    Speakerboxx/The Love below: Outkast

    Justin Timberlake: Justified

    The White Stripes: Elephant

I have threatened this for years...but this is it....

I am through with the Grammy's! Hip Hop is okay, but I do not think it should dominate the awards.

I probably am over the hill, but I do try to keep up, but this is too much. Justin Timerlake scores 6 nominations!!!!!

    AARGH!!!!!!!!

Of course, this is all IMHO :) as always

Radiohead is also up for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal (for "There There") as well as producing and engineering.

I guess they figure the Dan had their turn last time around.

  9. Cant believe that the only nomination that Springsteen got was his collaboration with Warren Zevon(which was great in itself). Where are the nominations for "The Rising"?

Rising was eligible and nominated last year I think.

Actually, isn't Dan up against Jethro Tull for Heavy Metal album of the year?

Which is also the case with Johnny Cash's "American IV," I believe, just to head off that question at the pass. :)

Other than the record labels, and some of the artists who really cares about the Grammys. They really should be called the Grammy Sales Awards. If you look at the nominations in the major categories over the years they were all major sellers.
Grammy nominations are rarely based on artistic merit.

Who are the judges? Aren't they a bunch of old dudes into Kenny G? Maybe they are just trying to appease their grandchildren.

Not to sound snobby but everytime there is a poll or some awards show I have to ask why anyone cares?

Are these the Grammys or the MTV music awards? I can't tell the difference.

Every time there is a thread devoted to a poll or awards show and somebody asks why anyone cares, I have to ask why that person is reading the thread in the first place.

Radiohead doesn't traditionally win the best album award, though, so maybe this is just in recognition of that fact?

Flaming Lips got nominated in the Best Alternative Album category for the Fight Test EP, which is just a collection of B-Sides and radio performances. It's simply a gesture... it's not Grammy worthy at all. I mean, "The Soft Bulletin" diserved a Grammy!!

It's just a silly awards show. Didn't "Casablanca" get snubbed at the Oscars? It never makes any sense...

If you consider winning Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay getting snubbed.

I try and read most threads. Of course the Grammys are going to be of interest to music fans. I can't really understand why people would get upset over the nominees. The Grammys are an institution that have never been relevant. I just see the Grammys like I would a People magazine. It's something to think about while on the john but nothing I'd actually care about.

Wow, no obligatory veterans in the "Best Album" category. It's practically a college radio playlist.
