Enjoyed 6/18/76 from the download series driving to and from Santa Cruz today. Windows down, sunroof open, dog riding shotgun. Fall in Northern California is pretty nice. I liked it a lot, not sure if I’ve ever listened to it. I particularly enjoyed the Crazy Fingers. That’s a song that really sounds great in 1976

2/6/1979 Tulsa. Perhaps it does exist and was included with the same batch of Tapes they got back that had the July 78 tapes. We can always hope

  3. They don’t limit the number of copies you can purchase so when they go on sale there probably a handful of entrepreneurs ready to buy. All it takes is a few folks to buy 10, 20, 50 copies as an investment to resell and that’s all she wrote.

Email on sale day for this latest installment stated a limit of two per customer, if I remember correctly.

  7. Anyone mind if I drop this song in the thread, it’s late and relatively quiet in here. This song has been stuck in my head all day and I’m hoping this will knock it out. Thank you all in advance. :p

Maybe Fairport, at times, but yeah, a very cool unique part of their approach.

You mean the British Jefferson Airplane, as they were sometimes referred to?

I vote 2/17/79, Oakland, the Godchaux’s last show. I was there and thoroughly enjoyed it. Donna’s screams on Saturday Night reverberated throughout the stadium, which you even hear on the SBDs.

Brent’s piano sounded plinky in ‘79, so let’s avoid him until he finds his groove.

FWIW, there’s a reference to that on their Wikipedia page, which cites a 2004 Guardian article as a reference.

    Fairport Convention - Wikipedia

The name "Fairport Convention" and the use of two lead vocalists led many new listeners to believe that they were an American act, earning them the nickname 'the British Jefferson Airplane’ during this period.[7] Fairport Convention played alongside Jefferson Airplane at the First Isle of Wight Festival, 1968.

Both Santa Fe shows were quite good as well, I thought that was the best stand of the tour listening through recently.
Who's got the tapes of 2-17-79? It seems to be a reel to reel master in the circulating lineage. 2-10-79 would be good enough for Dave's Picks I think, I don't have any notes, but a lot of stars over the setlist.

I wasn't too impressed with 4-22-79, it was perfectly adequate, but not much more.
Ha, I started the above last night and fell asleep before posting.

I've listened to the first 4-5 Brent shows, he's less plinky so far than he would later become. He's plinky as hell by the end of the year.

The first Fairport album, in particular, owes a lot to JA. They found their own sound pretty quickly afterwards.

Fairport is one of absolute fav bands...but I’d never thought about Jefferson Airplane in relation. I’ll have to relisten now...

I guess I will have to listen to some May 79 show and better describe what I mean, I wonder if he'd had his heart set on the dyno Rhodes 'cocaine sound' but didn't have the money until he got into the GD. That's my current hypothesis anyway.

Plinky has been a go to descriptor for many to describe Myd.
Never seemed to bug Jer or Bob.
When I first heard it in concert I pictured tiny rose buds...but then I was dropping.
